CANYON, Texas – The Buffs return home this weekend as they welcome the UT Permian Basin Falcons for Homecoming as kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. a Bain-Schaeffer Buffalo Stadium in Lone Star Conference action presented by First United Bank.
A LOOK AT THE FALCONS
UTPB enters the weekend with an overall record of 2-2 with a 1-1 mark in Lone Star Conference action following a 27-24 road victory over Western Oregon last weekend. A 55-yard fourth quarter interception with just 40 second remaining by Hayden Kelly sealed the win for the Falcons in Monmouth.
Dylan Graham guides the Falcon offense as the Walnut Creek, California product has completed 67-of-121 passes for 587 yards and six touchdowns to go along with three interceptions. Kory Harris leads the way in the backfield with 151 yards on 49 carries with a score while D'Ondre Robinson anchors the UTPB defense with 33 total tackles (21 solo) and 0.5 sacks.
UTPB HEAD COACH JUSTIN CARRIGAN
Justin Carrigan is now in his seventh season at the helm of the UTPB Football Program after being named the first head coach in school history on January 9, 2015.
Carrigan holds an overall record of 22-41 during his time in Odessa. Carrigan came to UTPB having spent five seasons as an assistant at Tarleton, the last three as offensive coordinator where they won a LSC Championship in 2013. The Angelo State alum was a two-time All-LSC selection at safety for the Rams.
THE SERIES
The Buffaloes hold a 4-1 advantage in the all-time series dating back to the 2016 season. UTPB picked up their first victory over the Buffs last season in Odessa, 42-31. UTPB is 0-2 all-time in Canyon and Saturday will mark their first ever trip to Bain-Schaeffer Buffalo Stadium.
HEAD COACH HUNTER HUGHES
Hunter Hughes is now in his sixth season at the helm of the Buffaloes as the Nashville, Tennessee native holds an overall record of 29-25 during his time in Canyon. A 1991 graduate of Middle Tennessee State, Hughes has coached 37 All-Lone Star Conference selections during his time in Maroon & White.
Hughes came to Canyon in December of 2016 following a decade as the Defensive Coordinator at Colorado State-Pueblo where the ThunderWolves made five NCAA Playoff appearances including a run to the 2014 NCAA Division II National Title.
THIS IS LSC FOOTBALL
The season kicks off Thursday, September 1st and the Lone Star Conference has 10 teams set to compete in 2022 with the addition of Central Washington, Simon Fraser and Western Oregon as affiliate members. Each team will play nine conference games to determine the LSC Champion.
WEEK FOUR RECAP
The Buffaloes took a one-point lead into the locker room on Saturday night but 28 second half points by the #4 Angelo State Rams proved to be the difference in a 34-14 Lone Star Conference contest at LeGrand Stadium in San Angelo, Texas
Nick Gerber finished the night going 14-of-24 for 189 yards while Arreola completed 4-of-11 passes for 50 yards and a pick.
Jarrod Compton led the Buffs with 61 yards on 15 carries while
Hunter Kaufman grabbed a team-high four passes for 44 yards.
Defensively, senior
Christopher Thomas led the way with seven total tackles (six solo) followed by Dillon,
Carson Otworth and
JT Cavender with six each. The Buffs registered 62 tackles on the night with two of them coming for a loss with one sack, one interception and four pass breakups.
WHERE THE BUFFALOES ROAM
West Texas A&M is home to one of the premiere college football facilities in the country as Bain-Schaeffer Buffalo Stadium opened on September 7, 2019 to a capacity crowd of 10,145 fans as the Buffs toppled Asuza Pacific, 35-16. The state of the art facility included Hellas Matrix FusionH XP2 artificial turf along with seven ground-level suites and the Fairly Group Club.
AFCA DIVISION II TOP-25 POLL
Ferris State picked up 29 first place votes to sit atop of the poll following a 69-3 victory over Waldorf. Grand Valley State jumped up one spot to second (one first place, 719) followed by Angelo State (686), Shepherd (649), West Georgia (623), Ouachita Baptist (605), Newberry (553), Slippery Rock (526), Ashland (477) and Pittsburg State (421) to round out this week's top ten.

West Texas A&M is home to one of the most successful athletic programs in all of NCAA Division II.
The 2021-22 campaign saw WT claimed six Lone Star Conference Championships, three LSC Tournament crowns, two Regional Championships and four Top-5 track and field finishes including the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Women's National Championship.
