LUBBOCK, Texas – West Texas A&M had a strong finish in their final tune-up before the Lone Star Conference Track & Field Championships on Saturday as they finished the final day of the Corky/Croofoot Shootout in Lubbock.
Eleonora Curtabbi picked up the first victory of the day in the 5,000-meter as the junior crossed the line in a season-best 17:38.22.
Tiana Melton finished 12
th in the 400m dash with a time of 1:00.30 while
Cheyann Shadden placed ninth running 1:11.19 in the 400m hurdles.
Two Lady Buffs competed in the pole vault with
Joey Zimmerman placing sixth with a personal-best clearance of 11-6.5 (3.52m) followed by
Jayna Lueders tied for eighth at 10-4.75 (3.17m).
On the track,
Butare Rugenerwa grabbed a victory for the Buffs running 3:49.83 in the 1,500m to defeat Texas Tech's Paul Sherill.
De'Vonte Edmonds ran 51.72 in the 400m to finish 25
th.
Gabe Imery led WT in the pole vault with a 14-5.25 (4.40m) clearance to tied ninth followed by
Dawson Gilliam in 12
thand
Dylan Gilliam in 15
th.
Jared Cummins ran a personal-best 55.18 in the 400m hurdles to lead the Buffs to place sixth with
Kash Starkey following closely in seventh at 55.28 and
Kenyon Mosley in eighth at 56.40.
WT will now set its eyes on the 2022 LSC Outdoor Championships on May 5-7 in Kingsville at the Javelina Stadium hosted by Texas A&M-Kingsville.
