CANYON, Texas – The #23 Lady Buffs kept their season alive on Saturday night at the First United Bank Center as they scored 33 points in the fourth quarter with 17 of those coming at the free throw line to advance to the South Central Regional Finals with a 78-73 victory over the Texas Woman's Pioneers in front of over 1,200 fans in Canyon.
Karley Motschenbacher finished the night going 6-of-10 from the floor including a perfect 6-of-6 from the stripe to lead the Lady Buffs with 19 points to go alone with nine rebounds, two assists, one block and three steals.
Zamorye Roberts and
Taylor Williams chipped in 16 points each followed by
Haylei Janssens with 11.
The Lady Buffs finished the night going 26-of-62 (41.9%) from the floor including 7-of-17 (41.2%) from behind the arc and 19-of-20 (95%) from the free throw line to go along with 33 rebounds (six offensive, 27 defensive), 10 assists, five turnovers, 11 blocks and seven steals in the win.
Sadie Moyer led the way for the Pioneers as the junior from Broken Arrow, Oklahoma went 8-of-12 from the field including a perfect 10-of-10 from the free throw line for a game-high 28 points to go along with two rebounds, two assists and a steal. TWU finished the game going 22-of-53 (41.5%) from the floor including 4-of-10 (40%) from deep and 25-of-32 (78.1%) from the free throw line to go along with 38 boards, six assists, 11 turnovers, three blocks and a steal.
The Lady Buffs advance to Monday night's South Central Regional Championship game against the third-seeded Lubbock Christian Lady Chaps with tipoff set for 7 p.m. at the First United Bank Center. LCU outlasted Texas A&M-Commerce, 69-67 in Saturday's first semifinal.
