Benjamin Azamati made his Olympic debut in the 100-meter dash on Saturday morning at the Olympic Stadium in Tokyo, Japan.
Azamati, who qualified for the Olympics after running a wind legal 9.97 at the Texas Relays, finished fourth in the seventh and final heat out of Lane 6. His time of 10.13, the sixth-fastest time of his career, was 0.1 seconds away from qualifying for Sunday's semifinal.
He will return to the track on Aug. 5 to run the second leg on Ghana's 4x100-meter relay. The quarter of Azamat, Sean Safo-Antwi, Joseph Manu and Joseph Paul Amoah qualified after reaching the final of the 2021 World Relays in May.
