Big Sixth Inning Clinches the Series for #5 West Texas A&M

LAREDO, Texas – The #5 Buffaloes of West Texas A&M plated five runs in the sixth inning to clinch their 10th Lone Star Conference series of the season on Saturday afternoon, topping the Texas A&M International Dustdevils at Jorge Haynes Field, 8-2.

The Buffs took advantage of a Dustdevils error with two outs in the third as Keone Givens and Ryan Johnson would score on a booted ball at shortstop for the 2-0 lead.

WT manufactured a run in the top of the sixth as Justin Martinez was hit by a pitch to start the frame followed by a Will Fuenning sacrifice bunt and a Kyle Moos RBI single thru the left side to plate Martinez. The Buffs weren't done yet as Cade Engle singled to right with two on and two outs to score Izaiah Madrid followed by a Jonah Gonzales two-run double and a Keone Givens infield RBI single to make it 7-0.

The Dustdevils got on the board for the first time in the series in the home half of the seventh as Brock Hargens drew a two-out walk with the bases loaded to score Phillip Sanchez to cut the lead to 7-1. WT responded in the top of the eighth as Gonzales doubled to left with one out to score Justin Robinson.

TAMIU cut into the lead again in the bottom of the eighth as Isaac Gonzales singled to left with two outs to score Daniel Quiroz and make it 8-2.

Todd Danzeisen picked up the win (6-0) for the Buffs, allowing no runs on four hits with two walks and six strikeouts in his five innings of work.

The Buffs and Dustdevils conclude the series on Sunday afternoon with first pitch of the finale scheduled for 1 p.m. in Laredo.
