LAREDO, Texas – The #5 Buffaloes of West Texas A&M registered their third shutout of the season on Friday afternoon as they topped the Texas A&M International Dustdevils in Lone Star Conference action at Jorge Haynes Field, 5-0.
Â
The Buffs wasted little time getting on the board as
Cade Engle doubled to the gap in right center to start the game followed by a
Keone Givens RBI single to right for the 1-0 lead.  WT would add to the lead in the fifth as they took advantage of a TAMIU error,
Kyle Moos went first to third on an errant pickoff attempt with one out followed by an
Izaiah Madrid sac fly to center to make it 2-0.
Â
A leadoff single in the home half of the eighth knocked
Mathieu Gauthier from the game as
Chandler Dean entered and forced a double play ball to Madrid at second followed by a flyout to end the inning with WT still leading 2-0. The Buffs added to their lead in the top of the ninth as Madrid doubled down the left field line with the bases loaded and two outs to drive in three runs and extend the lead to 5-0.Â
Â
Gauthier picked up the win (9-2) for the Buffs, allowing no runs on just two hits with no walks and nine strikeouts in his 7.0+ innings of work. Dean registered his second save of the season, allowing no runs on one hit with no walks and two strikeouts over the final two frames.
