CANYON, Texas – The #10 Buffaloes battled back in the late innings on Friday night as they claimed their sixth straight victory with a 7-3 decision at Dobson Field in Edmond, Oklahoma in the Lone Star Conference series opener against the Oklahoma Christian Eagles.

The Buffs jumped out to an early lead as the first three batters of the game registered a base hit with
Keone Givens driving in
Cade Engle with an RBI single to center followed later in the frame by a
Ryan Johnson sacrifice fly to left to plate
Jonah Gonzales for the 2-0 lead.

Mathieu Gauthier was dominant to start the game as the senior allowed just one hit over the first five frames. The Eagles got on the board in the sixth as Michael DiFiore grounded into a double play with the bases loaded to score the first OC run of the game followed by Chance Westervelt RBI double down the right field line and an Errett Edwards single to center for the 3-2 lead.

WT tied the game in the seventh as they took advantage of an Oklahoma Christian infield error to make it 3-3. The Buffs took the lead in the eight as
Will Fuenning tripled to center field with two outs to score Johnson followed by a walk and a
Cade Engle double to center to plate a pair and give the Buffs a 7-3 lead.

Chris Rodriguez entered from the bullpen and slammed the door, allowing no runs on no hits with no walks and three strikeouts over the final two frames for his third save of the season. Gauthier picked up the win (5-2), allowing three earned runs on five hits with one walk and six strikeouts in his seven innings of work.

The Buffs and Eagles continue their weekend series tomorrow afternoon with game two scheduled for a 2:00 p.m. first pitch in Edmond.
