Lady Buffs Fall on the Road at Northwest Nazarene, 77-73

NAMPA, Idaho – The Lady Buffs battled back from a 15-point third quarter deficit to cut the lead to one with under a minute remaining but a big long ball by Northwest Nazarene with 17 seconds left gave the Nighthawks a 77-73 victory to wrap-up the opening day of the NNU Classic at the Johnson Sports Center in Nampa, Idaho. 
 
Haylei Janssens led the way offensively for the Lady Buffs as the California native went 7-of-11 from the floor including 4-of-6 from behind the arc for a team-high 20 points to go along with four rebounds. Karley Motschenbacher finished with 14 points, two assists and two steals while Taylor Williams also scored in double-figures with 13.
 
The Lady Buffs finished the game going 27-of-69 (39.1%) from the floor including 10-of-29 (34.5%) from deep and 9-of-12 (75%) from the free throw line with 39 rebounds (10 offensive, 29 defensive), 13 assists, 17 turnovers, two blocks and six steals.
 
Erin Jenkins led the way for Northwest Nazarene as the junior went 9-of-12 from the floor and 3-of-5 from deep for a game-high 22 points to go along with four rebounds and an assist. The Nighthawks finished the game going 30-of-66 (45.5%) from the field including 4-of-12 (33.3%) from behind the arc and 13-of-24 (54.2%) from the free throw line to go along with 47 rebounds (14 offensive, 33 defensive), 20 assists, 18 turnovers, one block and 10 steals.
 
HALFTIME REPORT
The Lady Buffs trailed 40-30 headed into the locker room. WT went 12-of-33 (36.4%) from the field including 4-of-14 (28.6%) from deep and 2-of-4 (50%) from the free throw line with 19 rebounds, six assists, 11 turnovers, two blocks and three steals. NNU went 16-of-38 (42.1%) from the field in the half including 1-of-7 (14.3%) from behind the arc and 7-of-12 (58.3%) from the stripe with 28 rebounds, 11 assists, eight turnovers, one block and six steals.

The Lady Buffs finish off the Northwest Nazarene Classic on Saturday night as they take on the Central Washington Wildcats with tipoff set for 6 p.m. CT at the Johnson Sports Center. The Wildcats (2-1) fell to Westminster, 78-71 on Friday afternoon in Nampa.
