CANYON, Texas – The Buffaloes return to Buffalo Stadium as they jump back into Lone Star Conference action against the Angelo State Rams on Homecoming with kickoff set for 7 p.m. on Saturday night in Canyon.
- West Texas A&M is playing their 109th season of football as they hold an overall record of 526-523-2 (.502) dating back to the 1910 campaign.
- The Buffs are coming off of their longest road trip in over two decades as Western Oregon scored 20 fourth-quarter points to hand WT a 41-38 road loss at McArthur Field in Monmouth, Oregon.
- Saturday marks the 26th meeting on the gridiron between West Texas A&M and Angelo State, the Rams hold the 20-14 series advantage but the Buffs have claimed 11 of the last 20 meetings.
- ASU enters the weekend with an overall record of 4-1 following a 62-3 rout of Western New Mexico on Saturday in San Angelo. The Rams registered 629 yards of total offense with 353 of those coming on the ground against Western New Mexico last weekend. Jeff Girsch is now in his eighth season in San Angelo, serving the last two full seasons as the head coach of the Rams.
- The Buffs jump back into LSC action this week, Eastern New Mexico heads to Silver City for league action while Texas A&M-Kingsville takes on Midwestern State in Wichita Falls. Saginaw Valley State visits Texas A&M-Commerce while Lincoln (Calif.) head to Odessa.
A LOOK AT THE RAMS
ASU enters the weekend with an overall record of 4-1 following a 62-3 rout of Western New Mexico on Saturday in San Angelo.
The Rams registered 629 yards of total offense with 353 of those coming on the ground against the Mustangs. Hagen Garvin went 11-of-16 thru the air with 276 yards and four touchdowns while Kason Phillips and Alfred Grear combined for 230 yards on the ground with three scores.
ASU HEAD COACH JEFF GIRSCH
Jeff Girsch is now in his eighth season in San Angelo, serving the last two full seasons as the head coach of the Rams.
Girsch took over the ASU program on November 4, 2018 after serving as the team's Defensive Coordinator.
THE SERIES
Angelo State holds a 19-14 advantage in the all-time series against the Buffs as the two teams split a pair of contests last fall. ASU is 10-8 all-time in Canyon and 1-1 inside of Buffalo Stadium.
HEAD COACH HUNTER HUGHES
Hunter Hughes is now in his fifth season at the helm of the Buffaloes as the Nashville, Tennessee native holds an overall record of 22-22 during his time in Canyon. A 1991 graduate of Middle Tennessee State, Hughes has coached 21 All-Lone Star Conference selections during his time in Maroon & White.
Hughes came to Canyon in December of 2016 following a decade as the Defensive Coordinator at Colorado State-Pueblo where the ThunderWolves made five NCAA Playoff appearances including a run to the 2014 NCAA Division II National Championship.
THIS IS LSC FOOTBALL
The Lone Star Conference has eight teams set to compete in 2021. Each team will play seven conference games to determine the LSC Champion. The 2020 season was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the LSC did not sponsor a spring season in the sport of football.
WEEK FIVE RECAP
West Texas A&M made their longest road trip in over two decades on Saturday as the Western Oregon Wolves used a late touchdown to top the Buffs, 41-38 at McArthur Field in Monmouth, Oregon.
Nick Gerber finished the night going 17-of-31 thru the air with 235 yards and a touchdown while throwing two interceptions, the junior also rushed 11 times for 82 yards and three scores.
Khalil Harris carried the ball 21 times for 193 yards and a score while
Tyrie Tipton caught eight passes for 123 yards and a score in the loss.
Eric Collins,
Cole Oster and
Satchel Escalante registered nine tackles each.
BUFFALO STADIUM
West Texas A&M is home to one of the premiere college football facilities in the country as Buffalo Stadium opened on September 7, 2019 to a capacity crowd of 10,145 fans. The state of the art facility included Hellas Matrix FusionH XP2 artificial turf along with seven ground-level suites and the Fairly Group Club.

HOME OF CHAMPIONS
West Texas A&M is home to one of the most successful athletic programs in all of NCAA Division II.
The 2020-21 season saw WT claim seven LSC Regular Season Championships, three LSC Tournament Titles, three Regional Championships, four Top-three track & field finishes, a men's basketball national title game appearance and the 2021 NCAA Division II Softball National Championship.
HOMECOMING
The Buffaloes hold a 45-28-2 all-time record during Homecoming Week as they have won their last three Homecoming games. It will mark the seventh time that Angelo State (3-3) will come to Canyon during Homecoming.
WT has outscored their Homecoming opponents 2,015-1,568 as the Buffs have won 15 of their last 20 Homecoming games including nine straight from 2005-2013.
