CANYON, Texas – The Buffaloes hit the road for Lone Star Conference action this Saturday night as they head South to take on the Texas A&M-Kingsville Javelinas with kickoff set for 7 p.m. at Javelina Stadium.
- West Texas A&M is playing their 109th season of football as they hold an overall record of 528-524-2 (.502) dating back to the 1910 campaign.
- The Buffs struggled offensively last Saturday as they registered just 233 yards of total offense in a 15-3 loss to Texas A&M-Commerce at Buffalo Stadium.
- The Javelinas lead the all-time series against the Buffs, 18-16-1 dating back to the 1939 season. WT has won eight of the last 10 meetings including the last two, the Buffs are 7-9-1 all-time in Kingsville.
- The Javelinas ran their win streak to two games this past Saturday as they handed Western New Mexico a 28-19 Lone Star Conference loss in Silver City. Mike Salinas is in his second season at the helm of his alma mater, being introduced as 12th head coach in program history on December 20, 2019.
- Week nine features four Lone Star Conference contests as the Buffs hit the road to take on Texas A&M-Kingsville while Angelo State travels to Portales to battle Eastern New Mexico. Western New Mexico hits the road to take on LSC leader Midwestern State while UT Permian Basin travels to Texas A&M-Commerce.
A LOOK AT THE JAVELINAS
The Javelinas ran their win streak to two games this past Saturday as they handed Western New Mexico a 28-19 Lone Star Conference loss in Silver City.
TAMUK registered 276 yards of total offense in the win as Zadock Dinklemann went 14-of-24 thru the air with 207 yards and a touchdown. Christian Anderson ran the ball 16 times for 53 yards and a score while Ty Chisum caught three passes for 73 yards.
TAMUK HEAD COACH MIKE SALINAS
Mike Salinas is in his second season at the helm of his alma mater, being introduced as 12th head coach in program history on December 20, 2019.
He was a three-year letterwinner for the Javelinas from 1995-99 where TAMUK won three LSC Championships and two West Region Titles. Salinas is no stranger to the Maroon & White as he served as the Defensive Coordinator at WT during the 2005 season.

The Javelinas lead the all-time series against the Buffs, 18-16-1 dating back to the 1939 season. WT has won eight of the last 10 meetings including the last two, the Buffs are 7-9-1 all-time in Kingsville.
HEAD COACH HUNTER HUGHES
Hunter Hughes is now in his fifth season at the helm of the Buffaloes as the Nashville, Tennessee native holds an overall record of 24-23 during his time in Canyon. A 1991 graduate of Middle Tennessee State, Hughes has coached 21 All-Lone Star Conference selections during his time in Maroon & White.
Hughes came to Canyon in December of 2016 following a decade as the Defensive Coordinator at Colorado State-Pueblo where the ThunderWolves made five NCAA Playoff appearances including a run to the 2014 NCAA Division II National Championship.
THIS IS LSC FOOTBALL
The LSC has eight teams set to compete in 2021. Each team will play seven conference games to determine the LSC Champion. The 2020 season was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the LSC did not sponsor a spring football season.
WEEK EIGHT RECAP
West Texas A&M held a powerful Texas A&M-Commerce offense to just 290 yards of total offense but three turnovers doomed the Buffaloes in a 15-3 Lone Star Conference defeat on Saturday night at Buffalo Stadium in Canyon, Texas.
Nick Gerber finished the night going 12-of-25 thru the air with 98 yards and a pair of picks,
Brandon Blair led the way on the ground with 60 yards while
Caleb Ollison caught three passes for 27 yards.
Taylyn Hickerson and
JT Cavender registered nine tackles each for the Buffs followed by Chris Thomas with eight while
Tobias Harris tallied five tackles to go along with an interception.
BUFFALO STADIUM
West Texas A&M is home to one of the premiere college football facilities in the country as Buffalo Stadium opened on September 7, 2019 to a capacity crowd of 10,145 fans. The state of the art facility included Hellas Matrix FusionH XP2 artificial turf along with seven ground-level suites and the Fairly Group Club.

West Texas A&M is home to one of the most successful athletic programs in all of NCAA Division II.
The 2020-21 season saw WT claim seven LSC Regular Season Championships, three LSC Tournament Titles, three Regional Championships, four Top-three track & field finishes, a men's basketball national title game appearance and the 2021 NCAA Division II Softball National Championship.

Tobias Harris has been named a nominee for the 2021 Mayo Clinic Comeback Player of the Year Award.
Ten times during the 2021 college football season, three inspiring student-athletes from all levels of college football who have overcome injury, illness, or other challenges, are recognized as Mayo Clinic Comeback Player of the Year Nominees by a panel of writers, editors, and sports information directors from CoSIDA, AP and Touchdown Illustrated.
In December, three of the 30 nominees will be chosen as winners of the Mayo Clinic Comeback Player of the Year Award and will be recognized at a special ceremony during the PlayStation® Fiesta Bowl on Jan. 1, 2022.
