Harrison Finishes Fourth in Pentathlon at Washburn Open

DAY ONE RESULTS

TOPEKA, Kan. – 
Elliot Harrison was one of two Lady Buffs to finish in the top five in the pentathlon on Friday afternoon at the Washburn Open in Topeka, Kan. Zada Swoopes and Daphne Pate also recorded Top 10 marks in their respective events during the first day of competition. 
 
Harrison finished fourth with 3,217 points setting personal bests in four of the five events. She ran 9.41 in the 60-meter hurdles to earn 826 points followed by a clearance of 5-3.5 (1.61m) in the high jump for 747 points. She would pick up 382 points in the shot put and 524 points in the long jump before running 2:33.65 in the 800-meters. 
 
Laiten Greeson, competing in the event for just the second time, went over the 3,000-point mark as well as the Amarillo native finished fifth with 3,095 points. She opened the multi with 836 points in the 60m hurdles before clearing a personal best mark of 4-8.25 (1.43m) in the high jump for 544 points. After collecting 527 points in the shot put and 584 points in the long jump, she ran a personal best time of 2:37.31 to pick up 604 points. 
 
Cheyann Shadden finished 10th in her collegiate pentathlon with 2,619 points. After picking up 784 points in the 60m hurdles and 544 points in the high jump, she added 346 points in the shot put. She finished the competition with 416 points in the long jump and 569 in the 800m. 
 
Pate added her name to the record book for a second time during her career as the Amarillo native ran the seventh-fastest 5,000-meter in program history. The sophomore ran 18:11.29 to finish fourth and make her one of three Lady Buffs that have run under 18:12 twice indoors. Maddie Hooker won her heat and finished eighth overall after running 19:10.04, 32 seconds faster than her previous personal best.
 
Swoopes recorded a runner-up finish in the weight throw with the third-best mark in program history. She tossed the 20-puond weight 55-10.25 (17.02m) on her sixth attempt of the competition making her the first Lady Buff in program history to throw over 17 meters three times. Taylor Mixon PR'd for the second straight meet as she finished sixth with a mark of 51-1.75 (15.59m). 
 
Miriam Zanovello was the top finisher for the Lady Buffs in the long jump with a seasonal best mark of 18-3 (5.56m). Daniela Pesic finished 10th with a mark of 17-2.75 (5.25m) with Nyakat Ezbon in 13th and Flore Gracia in 17th.
 
Joey Zimmerman recorded a Top 10 finish in the pole vault with an eighth-place with a clearance of 10-7 (3.23m). Jayna Lueders also finished 10th in her first competition of the year with a clearance of 8-7.5 (2.63m).
