Former Buff Davy Arnaud Named Austin FC Assistant Coach

AUSTIN, TX – Former West Texas A&M men's soccer All-American Davy Arnaud was appointed as an assistant coach by Major League Soccer's Austin FC on Monday morning joining former teammate Josh Wolff's staff.  Arnaud joins Wolff after serving as the Interim Head Coach for the Houston Dynamo.
 
Arnaud was in his third season as an assistant coach with Houston before being named the interim manager for the final nine games of the season.  The Dynamo finished 10th in the Western Conference standings just eight points behind in-state rival FC Dallas. 
 
He starred at WT from 1999-2001 where he led the Buffs to back-to-back Elite Eight appearances in 2000 and 2001.  He was the first player in program history to earn All-American honors when he was named to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) First Team.  The two-time LSC Offensive Player of the Year was inducted into the West Texas A&M Hall of Champions in 2008. 
 
The Nederland, Texas native went on to play 14-years in the MLS, playing his first 10 seasons with the Kansas City Wizards/Sporting KC alongside Austin FC head coach Josh Wolff.  With the Wizards he won the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup and MLS Cup Final in 2004.  He joined the Montreal Impact in 2011 before finishing his career with the D.C. United.  He appeared in 351 career regular-season games registering 50 goals and 46 assists.  He ranks 13th in MLS history with 316 career starts and was the most fouled player in league history, 746 fouls.  He made seven appearances for the U.S. Men's National Team scoring his lone goal in the 6th minute against Haiti in a 2-2 draw in the 2009 CONCACAF Gold Cup. 
 
Austin FC is the first major league team in Austin after joining MLS in January 2019 as the 27th club.  The team will officially begin play in 2021.
