RICHARDSON, Texas – West Texas A&M's
Florance Uwajeneza was named the 2020 Lone Star Conference Women's Cross Country Runner of the Year on Tuesday morning by the league's offices. She becomes just the third Lady Buff in program history to receive the recognition joining Brenda Sindet and
Emma Love.
Â
"Florance has been working very hard ever since she committed to come to WT," said head coach
Jake Krolick. "She has definitely earned this award and expect this to be the first of many such honors to come."
Â
The junior's record breaking performance at the conference championships led her to become the first male or female runner in cross country program history to be named the USTFCCCA National Athlete of the Week. She covered the 6-kilometer course in a time of 20:50.60 which was one minute, 24 seconds faster than the second-place finisher for the largest margin of victory in championship history.
Â
Uwajaneza and WT return to Lubbock for the final race of the season on Saturday, Nov. 14, to compete in the D2 National Invite.Â
