Lady Buffs Drop Home Opener to Adams State

CANYON, Texas – The Lady Buffs of West Texas A&M dropped its 2019 home opener 2-1 to Adams State on Saturday afternoon at The Pitch. WT finished the contest with a game-high 24 shots as they fall to 1-2-0 on the season.

The Lady Buffs controlled the opening minutes of the match recording four shots before Mackenzie Taylor scored the opener from the penalty spot in the 12thminute. Following a handball from a Grizzly defender, Taylor converted from the spot for her fourth career goal.

ASU tied the game at 1-all against the run of play in the 43rdminute with Kaylee Uebel going far post to beat Natasha Worm following at through ball from Jordyn Maes. The Grizzlies took the lead in the 67thminute on Maes' goal on a rebound following a save from Worm.

WT would have chance to tie the game in the 86thminute on another penalty on the Grizzlies but Emily Avila's attempt was saved by Corri Zaiger to give ASU their first win over the Lady Buffs in six tries.

The Lady Buffs return to action on Saturday, Sept. 21, against Oklahoma Baptist in Shawnee, Okla. WT is 1-1-0 all-time against the Bison.
