#14 Buffs and Cameron Clash on Championship Sunday at Wilder Park

CANYON, Texas – 
The #14 Buffaloes of West Texas A&M look to keep their 2019 season alive on Sunday afternoon as they take on the Cameron Aggies in the Lone Star Conference Title Game with first pitch scheduled for 11 a.m. at Wilder Park in Canyon.
 
CAMERON
The Aggies are guided by fourth year head coach Brady Huston who holds an overall record of 99-101 entering Sunday. Cameron holds a three-game win streak following a 12-3 victory over top ranked Angelo State in the LSC Semifinals on Friday afternoon in Canyon.
 
CU is led offensively by Pierce Khan who is hitting .339 on the season with 15 doubles and seven homeruns to drive in 52 RBI with 96 total bases for a slugging percentage of .542. Hayden Jaco enters Championship Sunday with an ERA of 4.19 as the senior picked up the victory over ASU on Friday afternoon, he has registered 25 strikeouts in his 34.1 innings of work with an opposing batting average of .187.
 
NATIONAL COLLEGE BASEBALL WRITERS TOP-25 POLL (MAY 7)
The West Texas A&M Buffaloes fell one spot to 14th in this week's edition of the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) Division II Top-25 Poll announced on Tuesday afternoon.
 
Angelo State picked up 11 of the possible 18 first place votes for 436 total points to sit atop of the poll for the third straight week followed by North Greenville (three first place, 429), UC San Diego (four first place, 414), Colorado Mesa (367), West Florida (356), Adelphi (347), Millersville (327), Central Missouri (315), Tampa (307) and Azusa Pacific (283) to round out the top ten. The South Central Region was represented by Angelo State (1st), Colorado Mesa (4th), West Texas A&M (14th), Colorado School of Mines (22nd) and Lubbock Christian (RV).
 
WT HEAD COACH MATT VANDERBURG
Matt Vanderburg has built West Texas A&M Baseball into a regional and national contender as the Norman, Oklahoma native enters his 11th season at the helm of the Buffs. He holds an overall record of 357-215 (.623) during his decade in Canyon while registering a career record of 456-282 (.616) in his 13 seasons in collegiate baseball.

SOUTH CENTRAL REGIONAL RANKINGS (MAY 8)
Top ranked Angelo State sits atop of the regional poll followed by Colorado Mesa, Lubbock Christian, Colorado School of Mines, West Texas A&M, Dixie State, Arkansas-Fort Smith and Oklahoma Christian. The 56-team field for the 2019 NCAA Division II Baseball Championship will be announced via an online selection show taking place on NCAA.com on Sunday, May 12th at 10 p.m. ET with six selections coming from the South Central Region. Winners of the LSC, Heartland and RMAC Tournament will receive an automatic bid into the regional with the final three spots determined by the NCAA selection committee.
 
ALL-LONE STAR CONFERENCE
Senior right-hander Joe Corbett was named the league's Pitcher of the Year while picking up First Team accolades. Corbett was joined on the All-LSC First Team by Keone Givens, Zach Dixon, Dominic Yearego and Kyle Kaufman while Darin Cook picked up Second Team accolades, Nick Guaragna and Justice Nakagawa were named Honorable Mention selections while Nakagawa and Givens were also named All-Defensive.
