#17 Buffs Roll Past Eastern New Mexico in Game One, 13-3

PORTALES, New Mexico – The #15 Buffaloes of West Texas A&M started out their Lone Star Conference weekend series in style on Friday night as they pounded out 13 runs on 11 hits as they handled the rival Greyhounds of Eastern New Mexico 13-3 at Greyhound Field in Portales, New Mexico.
 
The Buffs and Greyhounds continue their weekend series tomorrow afternoon with first pitch of a doubleheader scheduled for 2 p.m. CT at Greyhound Field.

GAME RECAP:
The Buffs got on the board in the top of the second inning as Cade Engle was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded and one out to drive in Kyle Kaufman followed by a Nick Guaragna walk to make it 2-0, WT wasn't done yet as Tanner Schuetz singled up the middle to drive in a pair at 4-0.
 
WT added to their lead in the top of the fourth as Keone Givens singled to first base to score Guaragna from third to force a move to the ENMU bullpen, Kaufman singled thru the right side with two outs and the bases loaded to drive in a pair followed by a Christian Loya two-run RBI double to right to make it 9-0. 
 
The Buffs ran their lead to double-digits in the fifth as Givens lined out to right to score Engle followed later in the inning by an ENMU error that scored Justice Nakagawa and an RBI groundout by Kaufman to make it 12-0. The Hound got on the board in the home half of the sixth following a lightning delay as Malcolm Boehm tripled down the right field line, ENMU would score two more in the bottom of the seventh before the Buffs answered with a Schuetz RBI single in the top of the eighth for a 13-3 victory.
 
Drew Mesecher picked up the win (5-3) for the Buffs, allowing no runs on just two hits with two walks and four strikeouts in five innings of work.
