Game One
The Lady Buffs came close to opening the scoring in the top of the first inning after loading bases with one out. Back-to-back singles from Kourtney Coveney and Shanna McBroom combined with a Miranda Grotenhuis hit by pitch loaded the bases but TSU's Jordan Withrow struck out the next two batters she faced to get out of the jam. Salzman would need only three pitches in the top of the second to put WT the lead as the freshman connected on her team leading 15thhome of the season to left field.
Grotenhuis would get the best of Withrow in the top of the third with her seventh home of the run taking the 3-2 offering over the fence in left. The TexAnns would respond in the bottom half of the inning with a three-run home run from Georgia Capell to right center. TSU would add two more runs in the bottom of the fifth to make it 5-2 in favor of the home team. The Lady Buffs would again load the bases in the top of the fifth but came away empty handed for the second time of the contest.
WT wouldn't go down without a fight in the top of the seventh cutting the deficit on Shayne Starkey's two-run home run to center with two outs. Grotenhuis reached base for the fourth time of the game on a nine pitch at-bat before Starkey connected on her 14thcareer home run.
Kyra Lair (14-4) dropped just her fourth game of the season as the freshman went six innings allowing five runs (five earned) on eight hits with a walk and five strikeouts.
Game Two
The Lady Buffs jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the top of the first on Salzman's two-run double. Coveney singled to right center with one out followed by Grotenhuis' second walk of the doubleheader. The freshman then would connect on her 12thdouble of the season to clear the bases before coming around to score on an error from the TSU pitcher. They would add two more runs in the top of the second on RBI singles from Grotenhuis and McBroom. Cordell reached base on a one out walk followed by four consecutive singles to give the Lady Buffs their largest lead of the series. The TexAnns retaliated with four runs of their own in the bottom half of the inning to the lead to 5-4.
They would extend the lead to four runs, 8-4, in the top of the third on two hits and a pair of errors from TSU. Brittany Cruz singled up the middle to lead off the inning before moving over to second on Marcela Mejia's sac bunt and stealing third. Cordell would score the junior right fielder with a single to center as Moore would reach base on an error from the third basemen. Both runners would score on Coveney's fielder's choice to make it 8-4. The TexAnns would get a run back in the bottom of the seventh on Tanna Huie's home run as Starkey (15-5) picked up her team-high 15thwin of the season allowing five runs (four earned) on eight hits and a walk.Â
