KINGSVILLE, Texas – Following a lengthy weather delay, No. 9 West Texas A&M dropped a 3-2 decision to Angelo State in the Lone Star Conference Quarterfinals on Friday evening in at Vernie and BlancheHubert Field in Kingsville, Texas.
The Lady Buffs will learn their postseason fate on Monday, May 6, during the NCAA Division II Softball Selection Show on NCAA.com at 9 a.m. CT.Â

The Rambelles opened the scoring in the top of the first inning on a bases loaded walk after four of the first six batters of the game reached base. WT responded in the bottom half of the inning with a run of their own on a two out RBI single up the middle from Shayne Starkey. The senior came up with runners on first and second with two outs before connecting on the first pitch she saw to tie the game at 1-all.Â
ASU retook the lead in the second inning, 3-1, on back-to-back doubles from Courtney Barnhill and Taylor Fogle with two outs. Two innings later, the Lady Buffs threatened to get cut into the deficit after putting runners on second and third with one out. Miranda Grotenhuis walked on five pitches to lead off the inning before advancing to third on Brittany Cruz's bunt single that forced a Rambelle throwing error.Â
WT cut it to 3-2 in the bottom of the fifth inning on Grotenhuis' two out single to left center. Kourtney Coveney reached base on a fielder's choice to first base advancing to second on Shanna McBroom's single to centerfield. Grotenhuis was up next and proceeded to send the 3-2 offering to left center to plate Coveney making it a one-run game. The Lady Buffs had the tying run on first in the bottom of the seventh following a single by Kylee Moore but ASU's Megan Hill forced consecutive fly outs to end the game
Lair (14-5) went three innings in her 23rd start of the season allowing three runs (two earned) on four hits with four walks while Starkey held the Rambelles to one hit over four innings.Â
