#6 West Texas A&M Completes a Weekend Sweep of Cameron

CANYON, Texas – The #6 Buffaloes of West Texas A&M scored 12 runs on 14 hits highlighted by a seven-run fifth inning as they capped off a weekend sweep of the visiting Cameron Aggies on Sunday afternoon at Wilder Park in front of over 200 fans to conclude Youth Weekend.
 
The Buffs hit the road next weekend as they take on the defending South Central Regional Champion Javelinas of Texas A&M-Kingsville to open up Lone Star Conference play in a four-game series at Nolan Ryan Field starting on Friday at 6 p.m.

RECAP:
The Buffs looked to get on the board in the bottom of the third as Tanner Schuetz stared the frame with a bunt single followed by an Aggie fielding error to put WT runners at first and second with no outs and the top of the order coming up, Keone Givens layed down a bunt single of his own to load the bases before Christian Loya drove in the game's first run with an RBI fielder's choice to make it 1-0.
 
The Aggies took the lead in the top of the fifth inning as Briton Schiewe crushed a two-run shot two outs for the 2-1 lead. Darius Carter led off the home half of the fifth with a single to right center followed by a Tanner Schuetz single to left to put Buffs on first and second, Justice Nakagawa doubled to right to tie the game followed by a wild pitch and a Givens sac fly to center at 4-2. WT wasn't done yet as Jake Pederson drove in a pair with a pinch-hit single thru the right side followed by a Carter RBI single to left center and an errant throw to run the lead to 8-2.
 
Cameron cut into the lead in the top of the sixth with a Pierce Kahn double to left center with one out before Brennen Geraghty stranded Kahn at third with a strikeout, the Buffs added to their lead in the bottom of the sixth with a Kyle Kaufman RBI single to left center at 9-3. The Aggies wouldn't go down without a fight as Izrael Trevino connected on a three-run homerun to left field with two outs in the top of the seventh to cut the lead to 9-6, Cameron would load the bases with two outs before Austin Gehle entered and picked up a big strikeout to end the frame.
 
The Buffs loaded the bases with no outs in the bottom of the eighth before a Kaufman double to right that drove in a pair followed by a Tag Baxter sac fly to run the lead to 12-6. Cameron responded in the top of the ninth as Kahn and Hayden Jaco connected on two-run shots to left center before a pair of strikeouts end the game, 12-10.
 
Dixon picked up the win (3-0) for the Buffs, allowing two runs on three hits with two walks and six strikeouts in his five innings of work.
