#5 Buffs Split Friday LSC Action at Texas A&M-Kingsville

KINGSVILLE, Texas – The #5 Buffaloes of West Texas A&M picked up a win to open Lone Star Conference action before falling in the nightcap to snap a nine-game winning streak on Friday at Nolan Ryan Field in Kingsville, Texas.
 
The Buffs and Javelinas continue their weekend series tomorrow afternoon with a single nine-inning game scheduled for 3 p.m. at Nolan Ryan Field. There is a potential of thunderstorms in the Kingsville area tomorrow so stay tuned to GoBuffsGo.com for updated game information.

GAME ONE RECAP:
The Buffs wasted little time getting on the board in the opener as they loaded the bases with one out before Nick Guaragna would score on a wild pitch followed by a walk issued to Tag Baxter to load the bases again, Christian Loya would drive in Clay Koelzer with an RBI fielder's choice followed by another wild pitch to plate Kyle Kaufman before Cade Engle doubled to the right center field gap to make it 5-0.
 
WT added to their lead in the top of the second with a Koelzer sac fly to score Keone Givens at 6-0, Kingsville got on the board in the home half of the frame as they took advantage of a WT error to make it 6-1. The Javelinas threatened in the bottom of the fourth with two on and two outs before Koelzer ended the frame with a bullet down to third to cut down a would-be stolen base to keep the score at 6-1.
 
Joe Corbett picked up the win (6-0) for the Buffs, allowing one earned run on three hits with four walks and nine strikeouts in the complete game victory.
 
GAME TWO RECAP:
The nightcap saw a pitcher's duel between Darin Cook and Zach Boyett as the two teams combined for just seven hits over the first four and a half frames. The Javelinas looked to score the game's first run in the home half of the fifth with a pair of hits to put runners on second and third with one out before Manny Laredo lifted a sac fly to right to score Seth Spinn, Pablo Hernandez singled to short to drive in Giancarlo Servin to make it 2-0.
 
Kingsville broke the game open in the sixth as Spinn doubled home a pair of runs followed by an intentional walk to load the bases before Larego singled thru the right side to make it 5-0 and force another move to the bullpen, Chandler Dean entered and registered a strikeout for the second out of the inning before another TAMUK run scored on a passed ball followed by a two-run single by Will Arnold to run the lead to 8-0.
 
Cook picked up the loss (4-1) on the mound for the Buffs, allowing two earned runs on seven hits with three walks and four strikeouts in his five innings of work.
