Corbett Strikes Out 10 as the #10 Buffs Roll in the Home Opener, 14-1

CANYON, Texas – West Texas A&M senior right-hander Joe Corbett struck out 10 over six innings of work while the #10 Buffs tallied 14 hits on Friday afternoon in a 14-1 run-rule victory over Adams State in their 2019 home opener at Wilder Park in Canyon.
 
The Buffs and Grizzlies continue their weekend series tomorrow afternoon with first pitch of a doubleheader scheduled for 1 p.m. at Wilder Park.

HOW IT HAPPENENED:
The Buffs got on the board first in the home half of the second inning as Jaxxon Fagg continued his hot start to the season with an RBI double to the left center field gap to score Kyle Kaufman with one out, Darius Carter tripled to center field followed by a balk to score another run at 3-0.
 
WT added to their lead in the bottom of the third as Tag Baxter doubled down the right field line with two outs followed by a Fagg ground-rule double that bounced over the left field wall to run the lead to 5-0, Darius Carter singled to shallow center field to score Fagg to make it 7-0.
 
The Grizzlies got on the board in the top of the fourth inning Nico Nintze tripled to center field with one out followed by a Orlando Romero sac fly to make it 7-1. The Buffs responded in the home half of the fifth with a two-rule double to left center by Fagg followed by RBI from Justice Nakagawa and Christian Loya. WT wasn't done yet as Clay Koelzer lifted a two-run bomb to left center at 14-1.
 
Joe Corbett picked up the win (1-0) for the Buffs, giving up one run (earned) on four hits with one walk and 10 strikeouts in his six innings of work while Chris Rodriguez tossed the final frame for the Buffs, walking one and striking out a pair.
