CANYON, Texas – West Texas A&M senior
Joe Corbett struck out 13 and the bats came alive late on Friday night as the #10 Buffs rolled past the Regis Rangers to stay unbeaten in the series opener at Wilder Park in Canyon, 16-1.

Due to high winds forecasted in the area tomorrow afternoon, a schedule change has been made. The Buffs and Rangers continue their weekend series on Saturday night with first pitch of a doubleheader schedule for 5 p.m. at Wilder Park.

HOW IT HAPPENENED:
The Buffs got on the board early in the home half of the first inning as
Clay Koelzer singled to center field to drive in
Keone Givens for the 1-0 advantage.
Joe Corbett rolled thru the first two innings as the senior right-hander struck out four of the first six he faced to bring the Buffs back to the plate, WT loaded the bases with no outs in the bottom of the second before an RBI groundout by
Christian Loya to make it 2-0.

WT added to their lead in the bottom of the third as
Jaxxon Fagg grounded out to second base with one out to plate
Kyle Kaufman and run the lead to 3-0, the Rangers got on the board in the top of the sixth inning with a Logan Heflebower RBI single to right center to cut the lead to 3-1.

The Buffs loaded the bases in the bottom of the sixth before
Kyle Kaufman was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded and no outs to make it 4-1,
Tag Baxter drew a full-count walk followed by a Fagg RBI groundout before
Darius Carter walked to load the bases again.
Nick Guaragna singled to center with one out to drive in a run followed by a Givens bases clearing triple to right center at 10-1.

Kaufman led off the seventh with a double down the left field line followed by a
Tag Baxter double off of the third base bag to run the lead to 11-1, Corbett gave way to
Brennen Geraghty to start the eighth as the junior worked around a one-out hit to throw up another zero. WT added to their lead in the eight with a
Reese Patterson RBI single to third with no outs followed later by a Baxter single thru the left side with the bases loaded to run the score to 13-2,
Cade Engle was hit by a pitch followed by RBI from
Darius Carter and Guaragna at 16-1 still with one out.

Corbett picked up the win (2-0) for the Buffs, allowing one run (unearned) on four hits with just one walk and 13 strikeouts in his seven innings of work while Geraghty closed the final two frames allowing just two hits with three strikeouts.
