Buffs Earn Nine All-LSC Football Honors

Football All-Lone Star Conference Awards

RICHARDSON, Texas – 
West Texas A&M had nine student-athletes earn All-Lone Star Conference honors, the league announced on Friday afternoon. The Buffs won eight games for the first time since 2013 finishing the season 8-3 overall and 5-3 in LSC play following a 34-24 victory over Midwestern State.

WT earned five First team All-LSC honors including tight end Jordan Johnson, defensive end Gerred Johnson, linebacker Eric Collins, linebacker Frank Honang and long snapper Brock Gerlich. Tobias Harris and Parker Hanna received Second Team All-LSC honors with Hayden Dennis and Duke Carter IV named to the honorable mention team. 

J. Johnson earns First Team honors for the second time in his career after doing it all for the Buffs in 2019 where he ran, passed and caught a touchdown pass. The Eagle Lake product finished the season with 284 rushing yards and eight touchdowns while pulling in 21 passes for 229 yards and three touchdowns. G. Johnson is one of three Buffs on the First Team defense as the Mansfield native recorded a career-high 40 tackles, 14.0 tackles for loss and 4.5 sacks. 

The Buffs had two of the four First Team linebackers in Honang and Collins. Honang's had a breakout year with 114 tackles, 11.0 tackles for loss, 3.0 sacks and five forced fumbles. He along with Dennis, became the first two Buffs to record over 100 tackles in the same season since 2012. Collins made the jump to the First Team after picking up Second Team honors as a sophomore in 2018. The Cedar Hill product recorded 67. Tackles, 12.0 tackles for loss, 4.5 sacks, seven pass breakups and four QB hurries. 

On the second team, Harris earned all-conference honors as a return specialist and corner back for the second straight season. The sophomore recorded a team-high four inteceptions while compiling a career-high 68 tackles including 4.0 tackles for loss and 13 pass breakups. As a returner, he leads the nation in punt return average and is one of three players to have over 1,000 combined return yards this season. He also broke the school record of punt return yards in a single season and career with his game-winning 72-yard touchdown return against Texas A&M-Kingsville. Hanna started in nine games at left tackle where he blocked for a Buff offense that rushed for 31 touchdowns and averaged 363.2 yards of total offense per game.

Dennis earns Honorable Mention honors for the first time in his career after recording a team-high 118 tackles, 11.0 tackles for loss and one sack. Carter IV finished his senior season as the Buffs leading rusher with 651 yards on 156 carries and five touchdowns. He finishes his two-year career at WT with five 100-yard games including a 259-yard performance in 2018.
