DALLAS, Texas – West Texas A&M finished its two-game road trip on Saturday afternoon with a 1-0 loss to No. 13 Dallas Baptist in a Lone Star Conference matchup at Patriot Soccer Field. The Lady Buffs dropped to 4-5-0 overall and 3-2-0 in conference play with the loss.
Daniela Estrada was busy from the opening whistle for the Lady Buffs with a pair of saves in the opening 10 minutes on shots from DBU's Kaci Parks and Summerlyn Heller. The Patriots were awarded a penalty for a handball in the 18th minute but Emmy Niece's attempt went over the crossbar as the game remained scoreless.
WT would go down 1-0 in the 30th minute on Abigail Olmos goal from close range. The Lady Buffs came within inches of equalizing in the final seconds of the half but their shot was deflected off the crossbar before being cleared off the line.
The Lady Buffs had a strong start to the second half with Jessica Diaz and Samantha Silvestre getting shots in the opening five minutes. Silvestre would have another chance in the 58th minute after beating her defender down the left but her shot near post was saved by DBU's Hope Koym.
Estrada came up huge for the Lady Buffs again in the 63rd minute with saves on A. Olmos and Jenna Patterson on a DBU counter attack. Hannah Kelley-Lusk found some space from 20 yards out in the 65th minute but Koym was there to make the save. Shanelle Arjoon had another chance for WT in the 80th minute
Kelley-Lusk and Silvestre finished the game with a team-high two shots, both players putting on shot on-target. Estrada finished the contest with six saves.
The Lady Buffs return to the friendly confines of The Pitch on Thursday, Oct. 17, to host rival Angelo State. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
