Kelley-Lusk’s First Half Brace Lifts Lady Buffs to 4-1 Victory over Angelo State

CANYON, Texas – Hannah Kelley-Lusk scored a first half brace as West Texas A&M defeated Angelo State 4-1 on Thursday evening in front of 186 fans at The Pitch. The Lady Buffs move to back .500 with the win, 5-5-0, and improve to 4-2 in Lone Star Conference play.

The Lady Buffs wasted no time getting on the board with a goal in the 6th minute from Shanelle Arjoon on an assist from Hannah Kelley-Lusk. The senior beat Kira Miller at the far post on a left-footed shot after finding space behind the Rambelle defense.

It would be 2-0 in the 23rd minute on Kelley-Lusk's fifth goal of the season on a rebound from Calista Cordero's shot off the cross bar. Cordero's right footed shot was tipped off the crossbar by ASU's Miller before falling into the path of Kelley-Lusk to double the lead.

The junior forward would score a second securing her brace in the 24th minute on a shot to the far post after a nice ball from Cordero. The Farmington, N.M. needed marginal space to power the ball past Miller with her right foot after a long ball from Cordero. The Rambelles would get a goal back in the 40th minute on Gabby Villagrand's header in the box.

WT spent the early parts of the second half defending with Daniela Estrada making an acrobatic save on Avery McNeme's shot from 20 yards out in the 54th minute. The Lady Buffs took control of the game in the 71st minute on Khaline Jacob's second of the season. The senior poked the ball into the back of the net after Samantha Silvestre flicked Emily Avila's free kick in front of goal.

Kelley-Lusk finished with a team-high three shots as WT recorded 11 shots, five on-target while Estrada picked up her fourth win of the season in net with six saves.

The Lady Buffs host the Hilltoppers of St. Edward's on Saturday, Oct. 19. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
