CANYON, Texas – West Texas A&M saw their four-game home winning streak come to an end on Saturday with a 2-1 defeat to St. Edward's. The loss drops the Lady Buffs to 5-6-0 overall and 4-3-0 in Lone Star Conference play.
WT saw themselves down 1-0 in the 18th minute on a goal from 18 yards out from Sarah Preston on an assist from Reagan Dykes. The Lady Buffs had their chances before the end of the half with Hannah Kelley-Lusk forcing a save with Khaline Jacob's rebound grazing the crossbar in the 38th minute.
The Hilltoppers doubled the lead in the 47th minute on a goal from Eli Chavez with Jenna Lipscomb credited with the assist. Jacob had another chance in the 51st minute with a breakaway but her shot was pushed away from the keeper.
Maliyah Mendoza got a goal back for the Lady Buffs in the 77th minute a rocket to the top corner from 20 yards out. After collecting the ball near midfielder, she split two defenders before sending the ball into the back of the net for her second goal of the season.
Kelley-Lusk finished the game with a game-high four shots, three on-target, with Mendoza also putting all three of her shots on-target. Estrada made fives in the loss.
The Lady travel to San Antonio on Thursday, Oct. 24, to face off against St. Mary's. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m
