Lady Buffs Head to Portales to Battle Eastern New Mexico in LSC Action

CANYON, Texas –
 The Lady Buffs hit the road for Lone Star Conference action on Tuesday night as they head West on Highway 60 to Portales, New Mexico to take on the rival Greyhounds of Eastern New Mexico with first serve set for 7 p.m. CT.
 
EASTERN NEW MEXICO
The Greyhounds enter the week with an overall record of 4-8 with a 2-3 mark in Lone Star Conference play following home losses to #20 Tarleton and Angelo State this past weekend in Portales.
 
ENMU is guided by sixth year head coach Sia Poyer who currently ranks second in program history with 69 career victories. Poyer has led the Hounds to two-straight Lone Star Conference Tournament appearances.
 
The Greyhounds are led offensively by Jasmine Gannon who has registered 181 kills (3.62/set) on 424 swings with 83 errors to hit .231 on the season, Kaitlyn Kluna paces the ENMU offense with 266 assists to average 5.32 per frame while Alba Ontiveros leads the way defensively with 225 digs (4.50/set).
 
ENMU enters the week with 591 kills on 1,624 attempts to go along with 286 attack errors to hit .186 offensively as a team with 553 assists, 57 service aces, 706 digs and 76 total blocks to average 1.52 per frame so far this season.
 
THE SERIES VS. EASTERN NEW MEXICO
Tuesday night will mark the 81st overall meeting on the court between the Lady Buffs and Greyhounds in a series dating back to the 1980 campaign. The Lady Buffs lead the all-time series, 66-14 with the two teams splitting a pair of meetings last season. WT is 25-11 all-time at Greyhound Arena as the Lady Buffs have lost their last three trips to Portales.
 
LAST MEETING (OCTOBER 27, 2017)
West Texas A&M senior Crystal Thomas registered 15 kills on 23 swings with just one attack error to hit .609 on the night as the Lady Buffs outlasted the rival Greyhounds of Eastern New Mexico in four sets during Lone Star Conference action at the WTAMU Fieldhouse "The Box" in Canyon.
 
The Lady Buffs hit .237 as a team with 56 kills on 156 swing with 19 attack errors to go along with 54 assists, two service aces, 61 digs and nine total blocks in the win.
 
Eastern New Mexico registered 50 kills on 149 attempts with 28 attack errors to hit .148 on the night with 47 assists, five service aces, 60 digs and four blocks.
 
Thomas led the way offensively with 15 kills on 23 swings with just one attack error to hit .609 on the night followed by Michaela Montgomery with 11 kills. Selena Batiste paced the WT offense with a match high 31 assists while Chandler Vogel led all players with 14 digs in the win.
 
LAST TIME OUT
West Texas A&M couldn't find a rhythm offensively for the second straight day as the Lady Buffs fell to the rival Belles of Angelo State in four sets during Lone Star Conference action on Saturday afternoon at the WTAMU Fieldhouse "The Box" in Canyon.
 
The Lady Buffs registered 47 kills on 147 attempts with 20 errors to hit .184 with 45 assists, three service aces, 70 digs and four blocks. WT was led offensively by Taylor Kress with 14 kills on 47 swings with four errors to hit .213 on the afternoon followed by Michaela Montgomery with 10 kills, Selena Batiste finished the match with 28 assists and 14 digs for a double-double while Chandler Vogel led the Lady Buffs with 24 digs.
 
Angelo State finished the match with 63 kills on 161 swings with 16 attack errors to hit .292 as a team with 56 assists, six aces, 64 digs and eight total blocks in the win. Audrey Fragniere led all players with 20 kills on 46 swings and five errors to hit .326 on the afternoon followed by Bailey Drum and Baleigh Allen with 12 kills each, Meghan Parker dished out 50 assists while Sundara Chinn Chloe Robinson had 19 digs each.
 
HOME DOMINANCE
West Texas A&M is fortunate to have one of the best home environments in all of NCAA Volleyball, in any division. The WTAMU Fieldhouse is more affectionately known as "The Box," is home to 19 Lone Star Conference Championships, 13 Regional Titles and three NCAA Division II National Championships. "The Box" boats one of the best home winning records in the NCAA on any level of competition. The Lady Buffs are 470-77 at The Box since the 1980 season for an incredible winning percentage of 86.2%.
 
WT HEAD COACH JASON SKOCH
WT head coach Jason Skoch, a four-time LSC Coach of the Year, is now in his 10th season at the helm of the Lady Buffs, carrying an overall career record of 400-100 (.802, 13th year) including a 264-80 (.771) mark in Canyon. Skoch has led the Lady Buffs to seven appearances in the NCAA Postseason with three South Central Regional Titles and a National Runner-Up finish in 2009.

2018 LSC PRESEASON POLL
Angelo State picked up eight of the possible 30 first place votes for a total of 304 points to sit atop of the poll followed by the Lady Buffs who received 10 first place votes for a total of 282 points. Tarleton ranked third with 277 points (seven first place) followed by Texas A&M-Commerce (four first place, 263), Texas Woman's (197), Texas A&M-Kingsville (191), Eastern New Mexico (133), MSU Texas (100), Western New Mexico (98), Cameron (80) and UT Permian Basin (one first place, 55).
 
Texas A&M-Kingsville's Madison Brabham was named the league's Preseason Offensive Player of the Year while Texas A&M-Commerce junior Shelley Chapron was tabbed the Preseason Defensive Player of the Year. Angelo State's Meghan Parker was honored as the league's Preseason Setter of the Year. The poll is voted on by the league's 11 head volleyball coaches, sports information directors and select media representatives from around the region.
 
THE LONE STAR CONFERENCE
The Lone Star Conference will feature 11 volleyball playing institutions for the third straight season as each team will play a one-conference double round-robin scheduling model, in which each team plays a home and away match against each of the other teams for 20 LSC contests.
