National Championship Statistics
HARRISBURG, Pa. – The West Texas A&M equestrian team finished 11
th at the 2018 IHSA National Championship, recording a number of honorable mention honors, along with a number of top ten finishes to close out the 2017-18 season.
Kendall Woellmer earned the 2018 IHSA Sportsmanship Award, as well as the 2018 Versatility Rider.
On the first day of the championship, Woellmer and
Rayleigh Rowell started the Lady Buffs off strong as Woellmer earned one team point for WT competing in the Collegiate Team Novice Equitation Over Fences and had a beautiful round placing sixth nationally. Woellmer also competed in the Collegiate Team Novice Equitation on the Flat and earned honorable mention honors. Ending the first day of competition, Rowell also earned honorable mention honors after a solid ride in Collegiate Team Intermediate on the Flat.
The second day saw another strong showing from the Lady Buffs as Danielle Salaverria had a great ride in Team Intermediate over Fences earning honorable mention honors and, competing in the Caccione Cup,
Klarissa Barley finished ninth nationally in Open Team Rider. Competing in Individual Walk Trot,
Elora Ellison finished tenth nationally, while
Catie McCharen finished eighth in Collegiate Team Walk Trot.
Madison Heacock earned honorable mention in Walk, Trot, Canter. Woellmer finished the day placing third in the Individual Open Horsemanship.
Heading to the weekend,
Brittany Milam earned honorable mention honors on day three of the championship for Collegiate Team Equitation Over Fences, while Woellmer finished fifth in Individual Open Horsemanship. Barley finished ninth overall in Collegiate Cup Open Flat, while Woellmer finished third in the AQHA High Point Rider to end the day.
On Sunday, the Lady Buffs saw
Carley Hockett and Ellison have great rides in Individual Intermediate Horsemanship and Individual Beginner Horsemanship, respectively. Both riders finished sixth nationally, while Woellmer earned the 2018 IHSA Sportsmanship Award, along with the 2018 Versatility Rider.
