Halbert Rolls as the #13 Lady Buffs Walk-It-Off Against Texas A&M-International

CANYON, Texas – The #13 Lady Buffs of West Texas A&M used an eight strikeout performance in the circle from senior Kilee Halbert along with a pair of homeruns including a walkoff three run shot to left by sophomore Shanna McBroom to roll past Texas A&M-International on Friday afternoon at Schaeffer Park in Canyon.
 
The WTAMU Invitational continues tomorrow afternoon as the Dustdevils take on UC-Colorado Springs at Noon followed by a pair of Lady Buff contests against UCCS (2 p.m.) and A&M-International (4 p.m.) at Schaeffer Park.

HOW IT HAPPENENED:
The Lady Buffs started off the scoring in the bottom of the first inning as Kourtney Coveney registered a one-out walk followed by an Ashley Hardin RBI double to center field for the 1-0 lead. Kilee Halbert registered four strikeouts in the first five batters before International put runners on first and second with singles in the top of the second before the senior forced a grounder back to the circle to end the inning with WT leading 1-0.
 
WT added to their lead in the home half of the third as Suka Van Gurp scored on an errant Dustdevil throw followed by a Kylee Moore three-run homerun the opposite way to left center to run the Lady Buff lead to 5-0. The Dustdevils threatened again in the top of the fourth inning with a pair of singles before Halbert responded with three straight outs highlighted by a Van Gurp diving play up the middle to end the inning with WT leading 5-0.
 
The Lady Buffs ended the game in bottom of the fifth inning as Shayne Starkey walked with two outs followed by a Stevie McLemore single thru the left side before Shanna McBroom walked it off with a three-run bomb to left field for the 8-0 victory.
 
Halbert picked up the win (5-0) for the Lady Buffs in the circle, allowing no runs on just four hits with no walks and eight strikeouts in her complete game shutout.
