CANYON, Texas – The West Texas A&M women's soccer team looks to get back on the winning track as it travels to Southwestern Oklahoma State for a 3 p.m. match against the Bulldogs Thursday afternoon. The Lady Buffs are 2-1-1 on the year, while SWOSU is 2-1.

WT is coming off a disappointing 2-1 loss at UC-Colorado Springs on Monday. The Lady Buffs got the first goal of the game from sophomore Marlene van Mourik at the 36:59 mark, but UCCS scored 57 seconds later for a 1-1 score. UCCS then added a goal in the 66th minute for a 2-1 lead, which it didn't relinquish.Â

The Lady Buffs were outshot for the first time this season as UCCS held a 16-6 lead in shots and a 6-1 lead in shots on goal. For WT, van Mourik scored her team-leading third goal of the season as junior goalkeeper Courtney Dippel had four saves and two goals against in 90 minutes. Only three Lady Buffs had shots in the game.Â

For the season the Lady Buffs are led by van Mourik who, along with three goals, has one assist for seven points. She has a team-high 21 shots (.143) and 15 on goal (.714) with one game winner. Freshman Calista Cordero and sophomore Samantha Silvestre each have one goal, while sophomore Shanelle Arjoon leads the team with two assists.Â

As a team, the Lady Buffs have scored five goals and allowed three, while outshooting the opposition 63-36 and 28-16 in shots on goal. WT has a .079 shooting percentage and a .444 on goal percentage. Between the posts, Dippel has logged all 380 minutes, allowing three goals for a 0.71 goals against average. She has 13 saves (.812) and a 2-1-1 record with two shutouts and faced 36 shots.Â

Southwestern Oklahoma State hosts WT and then travels to Angelo State for the final two non-conference games of the season. SWOSU is coming off a 2-1 victory over Central Oklahoma last Thursday where the Bulldogs trailed 1-0 at halftime and scored two second half goals for the win.Â

SWOSU head coach Mark Persson is 80-60-15 in his ninth season in Weatherford, Okla. He is the all-time winningest coach in school history and has led the Bulldogs to three regular season Great American Conference titles and two tournament championships in the last five years.Â
The Bulldogs have scored five goals on the year in 55 shots (.091) and have 27 shots on goal (.491) with three assists. SWOSU's goals have all come from different players Alimata Rabo and Memory Phiri lead the team with three points each. Rabo has one game winner and leads the team with 24 shots and 10 on goal. Erica Brunet has one converted penalty kick for the team, while the opposition has made two PK's this season.Â

In goal, Lexie Bates has played all 269:28 minutes and has allowed six goals (2.00 GAA) with 12 saves and has a 2-1 record for the season.  Â

SWOSU was tabbed the preseason GAC favorite garnering four first-place votes and finished 12-4-3 last season winning the regular season title. The Bulldogs return 17 letterwinners from last season and all but one starter in GAC Goalkeeper of the Year Courtney Flores. Rabo was a D2CCA All-America selection last year and so was Sandra Nabweteme.Â

Last season's match with SWOSU was not made up as it was cancelled due to weather. WT leads the all-time series 16-0-1 and has won the last two meetings both in Weatherford with a pair of shutouts in 2014 and 2015. The teams tied 1-1 in Canyon in 2013 for the last home meeting. WT has allowed just six goals in the 17 meetings with the Bulldogs.Â
