Strong Second Half Lifts #25 TWU Past the Lady Buffs

CANYON, Texas – The #25 Pioneers of Texas Woman's used a pair of second half goals to pick up a 2-1 victory in the Lone Star Conference opener at the Pioneer Soccer Complex in Denton, Texas.
 
The first half began with a strong defensive effort from WT as Franciezca Blancaflor made a crucial save in the sixth minute to deny Texas Woman's an early lead. Alicia Cohen capitalized on this momentum, scoring in the 10th minute with an assist from Ryann Davis to put the Lady Buffs ahead 1-0. The visitors maintained their lead into the break, with Blancaflor making another key save and the defense holding firm against multiple shots from Texas Woman's.
 
The second half began with a series of fouls committed by WT, including three by Lawrencia Yeboah, who also received a yellow card in the 65th minute. Despite a solid defensive effort, highlighted by Blancaflor's multiple saves, Texas Woman's took the lead in the 67th minute with a goal from Alexandra Hughes. Ailyn Oliveros extended the advantage in the 77th minute, assisted by Jaida Arizmendi, securing a 2-1 victory for the home team.
 
Blancaflor recorded five saves over 90 minutes in goal, facing 13 shots while conceding two goals. Cohen scored WT lone goal, converting her only shot on target with Davis contributing an assist in the match.
 
Ailyn Oliveros scored the game-winning goal for TWU, contributing to her total of two shots on goal. Oliveros was assisted by Jaida Arizmendi, who recorded the only assist for the team. Alexandra Hughes added to the scoreline with a goal from her single shot on target. In goal, Amanda Farris played a full 90 minutes, making one save and conceding just one goal as Texas Woman's secured their victory.
 
The Lady Buffs return to action on Saturday afternoon as they host the Hilltoppers of St. Edward's in Lone Star Conference action with kickoff set for 3:00 p.m. in Canyon.
