  • The Lead: Three first half goals sparked West Texas A&M to a 8-1 win over visiting Eastern New Mexico Saturday afternoon at The Pitch on Senior Day.  Junior Ivan Ulloa records a hat trick in the game.  The win extended the Buffs' winning streak to five games heading into the Heartland Conference Tournament. 
 
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
 
  • WT had some great chances early with three shots and two corners.
  • Some nifty passing up field as the Buffs could have had four assists, but juniors Julio Vargas and Ivan Ulloa dished to junior Reece Schattle for a score to the lower corner and 1-0 lead at the 8:14 mark.
  • The Buffs added their second goal as senior Chis Johnson scored off the second assist from Ulloa just over three minutes later for a 2-0 lead.
  • Senior Mirza Dizdarevic scored off a free kick from about 25 yards out at the 37:35 mark for a 3-0 lead.
  • At halftime, the Buffs honored ten seniors playing in their final regular season home game in a WT uniform as the 2017 senior class included; Casey Tilly, Chris Johnson, Mirza Dizdarevic, Shane Dockery, Sean Dubiln, Felipe Silva, Rafael Vasconcellos, Lewis Tillman, Jr., Evan Bozman and Gabe Williams.
  • Junior Julio Vargas scored off assists from Dizdarevic and Schattle at the 65:34 mark, followed by a goal from Ulloa, with an assist from senior Lewis Tillman for a 5-0 lead just under a minute later.
  • Both teams traded goals in the final 10 minutes as Christopher Mesquita scored his team-leading eighth goal of the season for ENMU and Dizdarevic scored his second goal of the day for a 6-1 lead at the 80:54 mark.
  • Ulloa scored his second goal of the game moments later off assists from Tillman and sophomore Cameron Walker and a 7-1 score.
  • Ulloa scored his third of the game off another assist from Dizdarevic for the hat trick.
  • A total of four goals were scored in the final 10 minutes of the game.
 
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
 
  • The Buffs dominated the first half to the tune of a 19-2 lead in shots and a 7-1 lead in shots on goal.Schattle led the way with four shots and one on frame with a goal.
  • Ulloa had two assists in the half.
  • WT freshman goalkeeper Alexander Vencel had one save, while ENMU goalkeeper Yuri Nascimiento had four saves.
  • Ulloa's hat trick marked the third of the season for WT as the Buffs had two hat tricks in a 13-2 win at UT Permian Basin on Sept. 30.
  • Dizdarevic had six shots with five on goal, along with two goals and two assists.Ulloa had four shots and three on frame leading to three scores and he recorded three assists.
