Halbert's Complete Game Shutout Lifts the #1 Lady Buffs Past Lubbock Christian, 7-0

LUBBOCK, Texas – The top ranked Lady Buffs of West Texas A&M used a complete game shutout by Kilee Halbert and three big homeruns to cruise past the Lady Chaps of Lubbock Christian, 7-0 at PlainsCapital Park in Lubbock, Texas on Wednesday afternoon in WT's final non-conference game of the season. The Lady Buffs hand LCU their first home loss of the season to move to 46-2 overall while LCU falls to 39-21 with the loss.

The Lady Buffs used the long ball to take the lead in the third inning as Brittany Gehle ledoff the frame with a bomb over the scoreboard in left center followed later in the inning by a Shayne Starkey RBI single up the middle with two outs and the bases loaded to run the WT lead to 2-0. Kilee Halbert would continue to roll in the home half of the third with a popup to Starkey in foul territory and a strikeout followed by an LCU hit before the sophomore forced a grounder to first to end the third with WT leading 2-0.

WT added to their lead in the top of the fourth inning as Brittany Cruz continued her push for the LSC Freshman of the Year as the New Braunfels native started the frame with a solo blast to straightaway center for the 3-0 lead. The Lady Buffs weren't done with the long ball as Andrea Sitter added to the WT lead with 2 outs as the senior lifted her first career grand slam to center field to stretch the lead to 7-0.

That proved to be more than enough for Halbert as the sophomore picked up the win (20-1) for the Lady Buffs, allowing no runs on five hits with three walks and three strikeouts in her 14th complete game of the season with her third shutout.
