CANYON, Texas – The #15 ranked Buffs split a doubleheader with Tarleton State on Saturday afternoon at Wilder Park. The Texans took game one, 8-6, holding off a late rally from the Buffs before WT lead from start to finish in game two, 7-0.
Austin Moore (3-1) picked up the win for the Buffs with a complete game two-hitter.
Trace Hansen and
Christian Loya led the team with three RBI with Hansen hitting his first two home runs in the second game.
For the two games, the Buffs hit .391 (18-for-46) with five doubles, five home runs and 12 RBI. The Texans only hit .236 (13-for-58) with one double and one home run. WT's pitching staff was dealing as four pitchers combined to strike out 21 batters over 14 innings.
Game #1The Texans took a 3-0 lead for the second straight game in top of the second inning due to two untimely errors and a wild pitch from the Buffs. TSU extended the lead to 5-0 in the next inning on a two run RBI by Zach McCown. The Buffs were unable to capitalize off of doubles by
John Baiada and
Trace Hansen to start the fourth before the Texans extended their lead in the next inning. The Texans added three more runs in the fifth on four hits to push the lead to 8-0.
The Buffs responded in the bottom half of the fifth with four runs to cut the Texans lead in half, 8-4.
Matt Cole drove in a run before
Nick Chapman hit his first home run of the season.
Mason Shiflett started off the inning with single before advancing to third on a Hansen single to left field. Cole's grounder to the shortstop resulted in an out but brought in WT's first run of the game. In the next at-bat, Chapman sent one over the left field wall for his first home run of the season. Jason Day and De La Paz reached base on walks before
Christian Loya's single up the middle plated Day.
Loya brought the Buffs within two runs, 8-6, with a two run home run in the bottom of the seventh. He sent the ball flying over the right field fence on the first pitch after De La Paz walked with two outs.

Game #2Austin Moore got the Buffs off to a strong start by striking out the side in 12 pitches in the top of the first.
Trace Hansen made sure to keep the momentum going with a leadoff home run in the bottom half of the inning. He took the second pitch of the game over the left field fence for his first home run of the season and give the Buffs a 1-0 lead. WT wasn't done as
Hunter Henderson brought home
Nick Chapman for their second run of the inning. The Buffs added two more runs in the third to extend thetheir lead, 4-0. Back-to-back singles from
Troy LaBrie and
Trace Hansen got the inning started.. A sac bunt from Cole advanced both runners to scoring position. LaBrie came to score on a wild pitch while a Chapman single up the middle plated Hansen.
Mason Shiflett sent one into the parking lot in the fourth inning to give the Buffs a 5-0 lead. That was Shiflett's third home run and was just the start for a big inning for WT. Following the home run,
Troy LaBrie sent one down the right field line for a double. Hansen followed the up with a deep shot into deep left center which resulted in an inside the park home run. The Buffs didn't supply anymore offense but Moore continued to deal on the mound. Before allowing his first hit in the fifth inning, he struck out nine batters including six swinging.
In picking up his third win of the season, Moore struck out a career-high 12 batters while allowing one hit. It marked the second time this season that he has struck out 10+. He accomplished that earlier in the season against New Mexico Highlands.
