Late Run Lifts Cameron Past West Texas A&M in the Lone Star Conference Quarterfinals, 79-70

ALLEN, Texas – The West Texas A&M Buffaloes took a lead with just over four minutes left before a scoring drought helped the fifth seeded Cameron Aggies to a 79-70 win over the Buffs in front of over 800 fans at the Allen Event Center on Thursday night in the Lone Star Conference Quarterfinals. The Buffs fall to 21-10 overall while the Aggies advance to the LSC Semifinals with an overall mark of 16-11.
 
David Chavlovich, the Lone Star Conference Player of the Year, finished his sophomore campaign with 634 career points to rank second all-time in program history behind Damien Lolar's 650 points in 2006-07. The Arlington native set a new program single-season record in three-point field goals made (111) and three-point field goals attempted (287). 
 
The Buffs went 24-of-62 (38.7%) from the floor in the game including 8-of-25 (32%) from long range and 14-of-18 (77.8%) from the charity stripe to go along with 23 total rebounds (nine offensive, 14 defensive), 14 fouls, 16 assists, nine turnovers, five blocks and 15 steals. Chavlovich went 6-of-20 from the floor and 3-of-7 from deep to lead the Buff with 19 points followed by Joseph Prince with 10 points while Jeff Bonner and Jerrod Walton grabbed five rebounds each.
 
The Aggies finished 34-of-59 (57.6%) from the floor including 5-of-10 (50%) from deep and 6-of-9 (66.7%) from the line to go along with 45 rebounds (14 offensive, 31 defensive), 18 fouls, 18 assists, 21 turnovers, eight blocks and five steals. Deondre Ray went 10-of-14 from the floor and 2-of-3 from deep to lead all players with 22 points while Jamaal Brantley registered 20 points, 15 rebounds and seven assists for the double-double.
 
The Buffs now put their postseason fate in the eyes of the selection committee as they entered the weekend as the ninth seed in the South Central Regional Rankings with the top eight seeds advancing to the NCAA Postseason released on Sunday night. Stay tuned to GoBuffsGo.com for more information.
