Game Two

Season Stats

LAWTON, Okla.  – With not being able to play until Sunday due to field conditions, the No. 12 West Texas A&M baseball team split a doubleheader Sunday afternoon at Cameron.  The Buffs won the opener 6-3, while Cameron battled back from a 3-0 deficit for a 6-3 win in the nightcap.

The game originally was scheduled for Friday-Sunday, but wet field conditions forced the series to be moved to Saturday-Monday.  On Saturday it was determined to play doubleheaders both Sunday and Monday.  Tomorrow's doubleheader will begin at 1 p.m.  Fans can access live stats on www.gobuffsgo.com on the baseball schedule page.

West Texas A&M 6, Cameron 3 (Game One)
In the opener, Cameron plated two runs in the bottom of the first as WT put two on in the top of the frame, but couldn't score.  An error helped the cause for the Aggies in the bottom of the inning on a RBI single from Russ Colgan and a double steal with a steal of home by Brandon Wright gave the Aggies a 2-0 lead.

In the top of the fourth, senior Josh Day was hit by the pitch and stole second.  Junior John Baiada singled up the middle, followed by junior Jake Fuller with a RBI single and an error moved him to second.  A sacrifice bunt from senior Mason Shiflett scored the second run.  From there, junior Troy LaBrie doubled home Fuller, followed by a double from senior Trace Hansen to load the bases.  Senior Nick Chapman drew a walk for a 4-2 lead as the Buffs left the bases full.

Cameron pulled within 4-3 in the bottom of the inning on a RBI single down the right field line from Jonathan Reyes, but the Buffs added two more runs in the sixth on a ground out by Day and an infield single from Baiada.

WT senior Austin Moore (4-1) went the distance for his second complete game of the season, allowing six hits, three runs – one earned, one walk and he fanned nine in 111 pitches.  Cameron starter Bryan Belote (2-2) took the loss going 3.2 innings, allowing five hits, four earned runs, three walks and three strikeouts.

Offensively, Hansen, Baiada, Fuller and LaBrie each had two hits for the Buffs as the team had nine for the game, while Reyes was 2 for 3 with a RBI for Cameron.  The Aggies had six hits with three errors leading to two unearned runs.

Cameron 6, West Texas A&M 3 (Game Two)
In the nightcap a RBI double from Fuller down the left field line to begin the top of the fifth got things started for the Buffs.  Junior Cole Sanchez was hit by a pitch and a walk to senior Aaron De La Paz loaded the bases.  Hansen singled home a run to left with nobody out and the bases loaded.  From there, the Buffs were unable to do any further damage as a pair of fly outs and a strikeout ended the threat.

WT added two more in the top of the sixth as Baiada singled to center and Fuller singled to right.  Baiada scored on a passed ball and later, Hansen came up with his second RBI single of the game for a 3-0 lead.

In the bottom of the inning a hit batsman with one out and a RBI ground out plated the first run for the Aggies.  WT returned the favor on the passed ball for a 3-2 score.  Senior pitcher Brooks Trujillo got out of the jam preserving the lead.

Senior Kyle Tinius relieved Trujillo in the bottom of the seventh as Trujillo went six innings, allowing two runs – one earned, four hits, two walks and he fanned six in 102 pitches.  Cameron put two on with two out in the frame on a single, fielder's choice and a walk.  Tyler McKenzie doubled home two runs down the left field line for a 4-3 lead on a 0-2 count for his third RBI of the game.  Wright singled to right for a 5-3 lead.

Colgan tripled to right to begin the bottom of the eighth for the Aggies after the Buffs went down in order in the top of the inning.  A sacrifice fly by Reyes gave Cameron a 6-3 lead heading into the Buffs' last chance in the top of the ninth.

A walk began the top of the ninth and a ground out to second moved the runner into scoring position.  A strikeout and a ground out ended the game.

Tinius (3-1) took the loss in relief, going 2.0 innings, allowing four hits, four earned runs with one walk.  Matt Glasman (3-0) picked up the win in relief going 3.2 innings, allowing one hit, walking three and fanning three after Dirk Masters went 5.1 innings, allowing five hits, three runs – two earned, walked four and fanned six.
