CANYON, Texas – The West Texas A&M Buffaloes will close out their 2015-16 home schedule on Wednesday night as they host he Lions of Texas A&M-Commerce with tipoff set for 7:30 p.m. on Senior Night at the First United Bank Center in Canyon. The Buffs are currently in a three-way tie for second play in the LSC standings with a record of 19-8 (7-4 LSC).
WEST TEXAS A&M
West Texas A&M sophomore guard David Chavlovich scored a team high 25 points as the Arlington native became a member of the 1,000 point club but it wasn't enough as the Buffs fell to the rival then #25 Mustangs of Midwestern State, 84-75 in front of 2,600 fans at D.L. Ligon Coliseum in Wichita Falls, Texas on Wednesday night. The Buffs went 19-of-29 (38.8%) from the floor in the game including 9-of-27 (33.3%) from deep and 28-of-40 (70%) from the free throw line to go along with 35 total rebounds (12 offensive, 23 defensive), 13 assists, 25 fouls, 18 turnovers, seven blocks and five steals. Chavlovich went 7-of-19 from the floor including 5-of-14 from deep to score a team high 25 points followed by Jeff Bonner with 17 to go along with 11 rebounds for the double-double.
WT HEAD COACH TOM BROWN
Head coach Tom Brown was hired on April 16, 2014, as the 17th head coach in WT men's basketball history. The Buffs completed an impressive season under Brown in his rookie campaign in Canyon. While returning just three student-athletes who saw playing time the year prior and picked last in the conference preseason poll, WT finished the season with a 17-12 overall record (12-4 at home) and 7-7 mark in Lone Star Conference play. They made the LSC Tournament as the fifth seed and fell in the quarterfinals to eventual tournament champion Texas A&M-Commerce. Brown is currently 36-20 overall during his time in Canyon.

1,000 POINT CLUB
With his 25 points last Wednesday night in Wichita Falls against Midwestern State, WT sophomore guard David Chavlovich joined the 1,000 Point Club. Chavlovich has now registered an impressive 1,011 career points in his two season in a WT uniform as the sophomore leads the Lone Star Conference in scoring this season with 20.2 points per game. To reach the career top-10 for the Buffs, the Arlington native needs 1,138 points for a tie for 10th with WTAMU Hall of Champions member Troy Burrus (1952-54). WT's all-time leading scorer is Martin Lattibeaudiere with 1,566 career points in 112 games from 1993-97.
LSC PRESEASON MEDIA DAY (OCT. 28)
Tarleton State earned top billing according to the 2015-16 Lone Star Conference men's basketball preseason poll announced by the league's offices on October 28th. TSU claimed the top spot with 19 first-place votes and 173 points after winning the LSC Championship last season with a 12-2 league mark. Midwestern State finished second with 151 points including the remaining three first-place votes. Angelo State was third with 120 points, followed by defending tournament champions Texas A&M-Commerce in fourth (109). West Texas A&M was picked fifth with 84 points with Cameron sixth (72), Texas A&M- Kingsville (55), and Eastern New Mexico (28) rounding out the poll.
TEXAS A&M-COMMERCE
The Lions enter the weekend with an overall record of 16-8 with a 5-6 mark in LSC play as they have dropped their last two contests against Texas A&M-Kingsville (74-84) and Angelo State (80-90). The Lions are led by 16th head coach Sam Walker as he stands as the second winningest active coach in the Lone Star Conference with 249 career victories, and also ranks fifth all-time in winning percentage among coaches with at least 50 career victories, winning 58 percent of his games. The Lions are led offensively by Bryant Crowder who has gone 155-of-251 (61.8%) from the floor including 79-of-136 (58.1%) from the free throw line to average a team leading 16.2 points per contest while also grabbing 6.9 rebounds per contest to tie Everrett Pleasant's 6.9 boards per game. TAMUC has gone 740-of-1508 (49.1%) from the floor this season including 156-of-418 (37.3%) from deep and 379-of-575 (65.9%) from the chariry stripe while averaging 43.3 rebounds per contest to go along with 336 assists, 132 blocks, and 150 steals while scoring 84.0 points per contest for a scoring margin of +8.5.
ALL-TIME SERIES
The Buffs lead the all-time series against Texas A&M-Commerce, 48-30. The Buffs snappd a five-game Commerce win streak with a 85-81 decision back on January 20th at the A&M-Commerce Fieldhouse.

The Buffaloes trailed by five points at the break but shot 51.5% from the floor in the second half including 57.9% from long range as the Buffs completed a Wednesday night Lone Star Conference sweep of the Texas A&M-Commerce Lions, 85-81 in front of over 1,300 fans at the A&M-Commerce Fieldhouse. WT went 28-of-71 (39.4%) from the floor including 13-of-36 (36.1%) from deep and 16-of-20 (80%) from the free throw line to go along with 44 rebounds (15 offensive, 29 defensive), 26 fouls, 13 assists, 11 turnovers, one block and four steals. Chavlovich went 9-of-22 from the floor and 6-of-14 from deep to tie a season high with 31 points followed by Jordan Evans with 17 and Garrett Brockman with 10 while Bonner and Jerrod Walton grabbed eight rebounds each.
