CANYON, Texas – The #22 Lady Buffs of West Texas A&M ended the 2016 WT Invitational in style on Sunday afternoon as four different Lady Buffs drove in runs on their way to a 8-0 run-rule win over the Adams State Grizzlies in front of over 400 fans at Schaeffer Park in Canyon, Texas. The Lady Buffs move to 10-0 on the season while the Grizzlies fall to 2-10.
WT started off the scoring in the bottom of the first inning as they loaded the bases with a
Brittany Gehle double and a pair of walks before
Kylee Moore drove in the game's first run with a full-count walk to score Gehle from third for the early 1-0 lead.
Alyssa Montoya made a great defensive stop in the top of the first inning as the Pima CC transfer grabbed a diving catch for the first out of the frame followed by a pair of groundouts to keep the score 1-0.
The Lady Buffs added to their lead in the bottom of the third inning as
Shea Ibrahim doubled to left center field followed by an
Ashley Hardin walk before Moore laced a frozen-rope two run double off of the left center field wall to score both. WT wasn't done yet as Montoya doubled to center field to beat the Adams State left center shift followed by an infield error by the Grizzlies with the bases loaded and two outs to score another run at 5-0. WT wasn't done yet as they used another long ball in the bottom of the fourth as Hardin crushed a ball over the center field fence to run the lead to 7-0.
The Lady Buffs ended the game in the bottom of the fifth inning as Ramirez singled to the shortstop with two outs followed by a
Chelsea Skipper single thru the left side before
Briana Garza singled to left field to score Ramirez from second to end the game, 8-0.
Kilee Halbert picked up the win (4-0) in the circle for the Lady Buffs as the Dalhart native allowed no runs on three hits with no walks and four strikeouts in the complete game shutout.
The Lady Buffs return to the friendly confines of Schaeffer Park next weekend as they host the Lady Buff Invite with doubleheader set against Lincoln, Western Oregon and Newman on Friday-Sunday with action starting at 2 p.m. each day.
