Lady Buffs Fall in Straight Sets to Eastern New Mexico on Tuesday Night in Portales

PORTALES, New Mexico – The Lady Buffs of West Texas A&M hit just .198 as a team as they suffered their first straight set loss to the rival Greyhounds of Easter New Mexico (20-25, 24-26, 24-26) in 12 years in front of over 500 fans at Greyhound Arena in Portales, New Mexico on Tuesday night. The Lady Buffs fall to 12-9 (7-4 LSC) on the season while ENMU improves to 11-10 (6-5 LSC) with the win.
 
The Lady Buffs were led offensively by Elisa Bentsen with 11 kills on 21 swings with just two attack errors to hit .429 on the night to go along with four blocks followed by Selena Batiste and Crystal Thomas with six kills each, Batiste paced the WT offense with 20 assists followed by Kyli Schulz with 11 while Lauren Britten led the Lady Buffs with 16 digs on the night. The Lady Buffs tallied 33 kills on 106 swings with 12 attack errors to hit .198 on the night with 32 assists, 42 digs and 11.0 total blocks.
 
Eastern New Mexico was led by Lauren Frye with 25 kills on 42 swings with four attack errors to hit .500 in the win followed by Brooklyn Biel with 11 kills, Alexis Aguirre dished out a match high 28 assists followed by Kaitlyn Kluna with 20 while Andrea Aguilar led all players with 17 digs. The Greyhounds registered 57 kills on 138 swings with 35 attack errors to hit .232 as a team with 53 assists, 54 digs and four total blocks in the win.

The Lady Buffs return to the friendly confines of the WTAMU Fieldhouse "The Box" this weekend as they host the Cameron Aggies on Friday night at 6 p.m. followed by a Highway 287 Challenge Cup matchup against Midwestern State on Saturday afternoon with first serve set for 1 p.m. Cameron (2-18, 0-11 LSC) dropped a five set decision to Texas Woman's on Tuesday night in Lawton while the Mustangs (10-12, 4-7 LSC) outlasted Texas A&M-Commerce in a five set thriller in Wichita Falls.
