Lady Buffs Face Off with Texas A&M-Commerce and Texas Woman’s in LSC Road Action

CANYON, Texas –
West Texas A&M currently sits alone in third place in the Lone Star Conference standings as they hit the road for league action this weekend against Texas A&M-Commerce and Texas Woman's. The Lady Buffs face off with the Lions on Friday night at 5 p.m. in Commerce followed by a Saturday afternoon matchup with TWU with first serve set for 2 p.m. in Denton.
 
TEXAS A&M-COMMERCE
Texas A&M-Commerce is led by seventh year head coach Craig Case who has guided the Lions to four straight Lone Star Conference Tournaments.
 
Commerce enters the weekend with an overall record of 10-8 with a 4-4 mark in LSC play following losses to Eastern New Mexico and Western New Mexico last weekend. The Lions are a perfect 5-0 inside of the TAMUC Fieldhouse this season.
 
The Lions are led offensively by Taryn Driver with 189 kills (2.78/set) on 508 swings with 81 attack errors to hit .213 on the season, Rylie Fuentes paces the TAMUC offense with 394 assists on the season to average 5.79 per frame while Ashle Mireles leads the way defensively with 342 digs to average 5.03 per frame.
 
The Lady Buffs lead the all-time series against the Lions, 39-11 with Commerce taking both meetings between the two teams last season. WT is 14-5 all-time inside of the TAMUC Fieldhouse since the series started during the 1981 season.
 
TEXAS WOMAN'S
The Pioneers are led by Interim Head Coach Jessica Beener who has served the last four season as TWU's top assistant coach.
 
Texas Woman's enters the weekend with an overall record of 6-11 with a 2-6 mark in the Lone Star Conference following road losses to Western New Mexico and Eastern New Mexico last weekend. The Pioneers are 5-3 this season inside of Kitty Magee Arena.
 
The Pioneers are led offensively by Anna McGee with 197 kills (3.18/set) on 480 swings with 60 attack errors to hit .285 on the season, Mary Kate Hyde has dished out a team high 461 assists on the season to average 9.22 per set while Emma Petolick leads the way defensively with 267 digs to average 4.17 per frame.
 
The Lady Buffs lead the all-time series with the Pioneers, 42-7 with TWU taking both meetings between the two teams last season. WT is 13-4 all-time in Denton.

West Texas A&M ended the fourth set on a 8-3 run to highlight a Tuesday night South Central Region win over the visiting Lady Chaps of Lubbock Christian (26-24, 14-15, 28-26, 25-18) in front of over 500 fans at the WTAMU Fieldhouse "The Box" in Canyon.
 
The Lady Buffs were led offensively by Michaela Montgomery with 13 kills on 27 swings with just two attack errors to hit .333 on the night followed by Elisa Bentsen (12), Taylor Kress (12) and Cori Haley (10) with double-digit kills, Selena Batiste continued to impress as the freshman guided the WT offense with a match high 48 assists while Haley led the Lady Buffs with 20 digs for a double-double followed by freshman Rachel Rhoades with 19. WT registered 56 kills on 158 swings with 24 attack errors to hit .203 as a team with 55 assists, 74 digs and 10.5 total blocks.
 
HOME DOMINANCE
West Texas A&M is fortunate to have one of the best home environments in all of NCAA Volleyball, in any division. The WTAMU Fieldhouse is more affectionately known as "The Box," is home to 19 Lone Star Conference Championships, 13 Regional Titles and three NCAA Division II National Championships. The WTAMU Fieldhouse "The Box" boats one of the best home winning records in the NCAA on any level of competition. The Lady Buffs are 449-71 at The Box since the 1980 season for an incredible winning percentage of 86.7%.
 
WT HEAD COACH JASON SKOCH
WT head coach Jason Skoch, a four-time Lone Star Conference Coach of the Year, is now in his eighth season at the helm of the Lady Buffs, carrying an overall career record of 363-74 (.834, 12th year including a 227-54 (.813) mark in Canyon. Skoch has led the Lady Buffs to seven appearances in the NCAA Postseason with three South Central Regional Titles and a National Runner-Up finish in 2009.

MOVING ON UP
Senior libero Lauren Britten is making her way up the program's all-time digs list as the Amarillo High School alumni currently sits in fourth place in the WT record books with 1,846 career digs. She is one of only nine Lady Buffs in history with atleast 1,500 career digs and the Amarillo native currently sits 304 digs behind Brittani Bell (2,150 / 2002-05) for third place all-time.
