#2 Lady Buffs Make it 17 Straight with a Doubleheader Sweep of UTPB in Canyon

CANYON, Texas – The #2 Lady Buffs of West Texas A&M allowed just one run on three hits as they stretched their winning streak to 17 games on Tuesday afternoon with a doubleheader sweep of UT-Permian Basin during Pro Wrestling Day in front of over 250 fans at Schaeffer Park in Canyon, Texas. The Lady Buffs become the first team in the South Central Region to reach 40 wins as they move to 41-6 overall on the season while the Falcons fall to 8-40.

The Lady Buffs finish off the regular season with a Lone Star Conference series this weekend to decide the league champion as WT needs just one victory to claim the outright title and the right to host the LSC Championship (May 1-2) for the second straight season. The Pioneers of Texas Woman's come to town for a four-game LSC series for Alumni Weekend starting on Friday night at 5:00 p.m. followed by the final two games of the regular season on Saturday starting at 1:00 p.m. The Lady Buffs will honor their senior class in a pregame ceremony on Saturday and there will be alumni activities throughout the weekend including a Celebration of WT Softball dinner on Saturday evening.

WT added to their lead in the bottom of the second inning as Allie Cranfill singled to left followed by an Ashley Hardin double to put runners on second and third with no outs, Hannah Limmer lifted a fly ball to left field for the sacrifice fly followed by a Gehle squeeze bunt single to plate Hardin from third base for the 4-0 lead.

WT used the long ball in the home half of the third as Kaisha Dacosin started the inning with a leadoff solo bomb to straight away center field followed two batters later by an Allie Smith line drive solo shot to left center field, the Lady Buffs weren't done yet as Limmer tripled to center field followed by a Ramirez RBI single up the middle to make it 8-0 after three innings of play. WT added to their lead in the bottom of the fourth inning as Lacey Taylor drove in an RBI with a sacrifice fly to center field to extend the score to 9-0, that's all that the Lady Buffs would need as Tori Bayer entered the game and registered three straight outs with Morgan Harrison taking care of two of those at second base to complete the combined one hit shutout. Rita Hokianga (18-4) picked up the win as the senior lefty allowed no runs on one hit with no walks and seven strikeouts in her 4.0 innings of work.
