CANYON, Texas – The top ranked Lady Buffs of West Texas A&M registered eight hits and drove in 16 runs on Saturday afternoon as they dominated the Eagles of Chadron State, 16-0 in a five inning run-rule decision in front of over 700 fans at Schaeffer Park in Canyon during the WT Woodward Invitational. The Lady Buffs move to 7-1 overall with the win while the Eagles fall to 0-9.
The Lady Buffs wasted no time scoring in the bottom of the first inning as
Tyler Wilkinson and
Stacey Ramirez registered walks followed by a
Renee Erwin bases clearing triple to left center for the 2-0 lead with no outs followed three batters later by an
Allie Smith walk with the bases loaded. WT wasn't done yet as the Eagles misplayed a
Brittany Gehle popup around the plate with two outs to score another run followed by Wilkinson's second walk of the frame to drive in a run to stretch the WT lead to 5-0.
The Lady Buffs added to their lead in the bottom of the third inning as Gehle drove home
Allie Cranfill from third base with an RBI single to right field with two outs followed by a Wilkinson infield single that saw Gehle round third on the play and slide-in to score to extend their lead to 7-0 heading into the fourth inning.
WT wasn't done yet as they plated nine runs on three hits highlighted by a Cranfill two RBI single and an Erwin grand slam with one out to straightaway center field for the 17-0 win.
Rita Hokianga picked up the win (4-1) in the circle for the Lady Buffs, giving up no runs on four hits with no walks and six strikeouts in her 4.0 innings of work while
Tori Bayer finished off the final inning allowing no runs on one hit with no walks and one strikeout.
