Five Run First Innings Sparks #1 Lady Buffs in Rout of Orediggers, 11-0

Boxscore (Coming Soon)

CANYON, Texas –
The # 1 Lady Buffs of West Texas A&M used a five run first inning highlighted by a three-run Lacey Taylor homerun as they cruised to a 11-0 five inning run-rule victory over the Orediggers of Colorado School of Mines in the opener of the 2015 WT Woodward Invitational at Schaeffer Park in Canyon. The Lady Buffs move to 5-1 while Mines falls to 1-7 overall.

The Lady Buffs wasted no time bringing the Schaeffer Park crowd to their feet as Tyler Wilkinson led off the game with a walk followed by a Stacey Ramirez RBI triple down the left field line. WT wasn't done yet as they used a Kaisha Dacosin bloop single that found fair territory before Lacey Taylor ran her hitting streak to six games with a first-pitch three run blast to right center field for the early 5-0 lead.

The top of the second inning saw Rita Hokianga continue to dominate as she registered a pair of strikeouts followed by an amazing diving grab in the left center field to end the frame with WT holding the 5-0 lead. WT added to their lead in the bottom of the second inning as Allie Smith continued her hot streak at the plate with a two RBI single thru the left side with the bases loaded to stretch the lead to 7-0.

Britany Gehle led off the bottom of the third inning with a triple to the deepest part of the park in right center followed by a Ramirez infield single, Renee Erwin drove in a pair of runs with a triple to the left center field gap with one out followed two batters later by a Taylor RBI single up the middle to give WT the 10-0 lead after three innings. The Lady Buffs weren't done yet as Hardin registered her first career homerun with a solo shot to straight away center field to leadoff the bottom of the fourth inning for the 11-0 win.

Hokianga picked up the win in the circle (3-1) for the Lady Buffs, giving up no runs on two hits with two walks and eight strikeouts in her 4.2 innings of work while Kilee Halbert registered the final out of the game, walking one batter.
