With the win, WT improved to 14-2 on the year and 5-1 in Lone Star Conference play, while TAMUC fell to 9-7 and 3-3 in league play.
The Lady Buffs had a season-high six players in double figures and all five starters led by 21 points from junior
Danielle Logan as she was 7 of 12 from the field and 5 of 8 from beyond the arc. Sophomore
Sasha Watson had a double-double with 12 points and 10 assists, while senior
Chontiquah White also had 12 points and six rebounds. Senior
Ariel Robertson added 11 points on 5 of 7 shooting and 10 points off the bench from junior
Michaela Neuhaus.
WT shot 51.5 percent from the field on 34 of 66. The Lady Buffs went 10 of 21 from beyond the arc and 22 of 31 from the line. WT had 24 assists to 15 turnovers along with 11 assists. The Lady Buffs led 26-10 on points off turnovers as they forced 23 miscues by TAMUC.
The Lions had three players in double figures led by 22 points from Artaejah Gay as she was 10 of 13 from the field with two triples. Gabby Scott added 13 points and Ashlee Johnson chipped in 10 points. TAMUC shot 42.6 percent for the game on 26 of 61. It was 7 of 19 from beyond the arc and 14 of 24 from the line.
The Lady Buffs put together probably their best half of the season as they scored a season-high 59 points in the first half and went 21 of 34 from the field for 61.8 percent and were a season-best 7 of10 from beyond the arc and 10 of 13 from the line. WT was led by a season-high 21 points for a half from Logan as she was 7 of 8 from the field with five triples and two free throws. White added 11 points, while Watson has six points and eight assists in the half.
TAMUC was led by 14 points off the bench from Gray on 6 of 7 from the field with two triples. The Lions were 14 of 33 from the field for 42.4 percent from the field, 6 of 12 from beyond the arc and 2 of 4 from the line. Ashlee Johnson added eight points. WT led 26-16 in points in the paint and held a 13-2 lead in points off turnovers as WT forced 10 miscues and just turned the ball over five times which was a season-low for a half.
The Lady Buffs never trailed in the half and led by as many as 26 points and led for 19:37 of the half.
Out of the intermission, junior
Madison McLain buried a triple for a 62-36 lead for the eighth trifecta of the game. The teams cooled off in the second half as McLain's triple was the only field goal through the first four minutes and TAMUC made just one free throw. The teams combined for nine fouls during the early moments of the second half. The teams combined to go 3 of 14 from the field through the first media timeout in the second half.
TAMUC showed some life in the second half as La'Tisha Hearne scored the "and one" pulling TAMUC to within 68-45 with 12:49 left as the Lions used a 6-0 run since the 15:10 mark. Senior
Haylee Oliver scored in the paint ending the run at the other end.
One free throw from Johnson and an offensive rebound and score from Gay cut the WT lead to 73-55 as the Lady Buffs really struggled through the mid portion of the second half.
Following the under eight media timeout, the Lady Buffs came out with a renewed vigor as a pair of buckets from senior
Ariel Robertson pushed the lead back over 20 points as Robertson converted the old fashion three-point play for an 81-59 lead with 6:38 left. Watson then earned the "and one" in transition for an 83-59 lead following a TAMUC miss. Robertson then swelled the lead and a 7-0 run for an 85-59 score with 5:45 left.
Since the eight minute mark, the Lady Buffs outscored TAMUC 18-9 for the 91-64 lead with five minutes left. A triple from sophomore
Maddison Wild swelled the lead to 30 at 98-68. Redshirt freshman
Bailey Thiel hit two free throws for an even 100 points and a 100-72 lead with less than20 seconds left. It was the second time this season WT has gone over the century mark with 108 against Oklahoma Panhandle State back in December.
The Lady Buffs continue at home tomorrow as they face Texas Woman's at 5:30 p.m. in the First United Bank Center.
