LEBANON, Illinois – The #20 Lady Buffs of West Texas A&M had to score 29 points in the opening set but they registered their sixth straight victory on Friday night as they topped the Hawks of Quincy University (29-27, 25-21, 17-25, 25-18) at the McKendree Classic at the Statham Sports Center in Lebanon, Illinois. The Lady Buffs move to 8-2 on the season while Quincy falls to 2-8.
WT was led by
Lauren Bevan with 16 kills and 17 digs for the double-double while fellow senior
Kameryn Hayes tallied 12 kills, 26 assists and 12 digs for her second triple-double in three matches.
Leah Mayer had one of her strongest matches as a Lady Buff with nine kills followed by
Cori Haley and
Jessica Johnson with eight each.
Kyli Schulz dished out 23 assists in the match to go along with 15 digs while
Lauren Britten led the team with 19 digs on the night. The Lady Buffs hit .227 as a team with 55 kills on 163 attempts with 18 attack errors while registering 47 assists, 77 digs and 14.5 total blocks.
The Hawks were led offensively by G Lincoln with 12 kills followed by J Licurgo and B Raebel with 11 kills each, R Binash led the team with 22 assists on the night while M Rodriguez tallied 19. S Holder tallied 26 digs on the night followed by S Haegele with 16 and Lincoln with 14 for the double-double. Quincy hit .233 as a team with 61 kills on 172 attempts with 21 attack errors while registering 57 assists, 81 digs and 8.5 blocks on the night.
The Lady Buffs return to action tomorrow as they are scheduled to take the Bulldogs of Truman State with first serve set for 3 p.m. followed by a matchup with the host Bearcats at 6:30 p.m. at the Statham Sports Center in Lebanon.
