Kosmopoulos Leads the Decathlon, WT Wins Three Events on Thursday

CANYON, Texas – West Texas A&M started off the 2026 Lone Star Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships with three event crowns at the WTAMU Track & Field Complex in Canyon.
 
Bella Kenney registered the first medal of the meet for the Lady Buffs in the women's pole vault, tallying a mark of 3.02m to finish third overall. The Lady Buffs qualified four runners for the 1,500m finals as Abigail Abugire (4:44.08) and Sarah Koomson (4:44.24) ran the two fastest prelim time followed by Eliette Chaput in 4th (4:44.42) and Kalkidan Vincendeau in fifth (4:44.50).
 
Esther Conde-Turpin punched her ticket to the 100m hurdle finals with the top prelim time of 13.42, the fourth best mark in DII this season. The 200m finals will feature a trio of Lady Buffs as Deborah Acheampong (23.56), Blessing Akintoye (23.77) and Sandra Appiah (24.05) qualified for Saturday.
 
Leidy Cuesta picked up the first event win of the meet for the Lady Buffs in the triple jump, registering a mark of 12.31m. Hope Gray claimed a bronze medal in the women's hammer throw with a mark of 53.71m on her final attempt.
 
Naomi Addo continued the Lady Buffs dominance in the distance events as the sophomore ran a time of 37:05.77 to win the 10,000m. 
 
Nikolas Kosmopoulos led the way in the men's decathlon following the opening day with a total of 3,923 points, winning all five of the events (100m, long jump, shot put, high jump, 400m) on Thursday. James Dadzie punched his ticket to the 200m finals with a time of 20.68.
 
Adrian Solis registered the fastest 1,500m prelim time (3:59.82) as he will be joined in the final by teammate Branch Cox (4:03.55). The Buffs will send three runners to the 110m hurdle finals as Raphael Gomis finished fourth in the prelims (14.45) followed by Fran Bonifacic (14.77) and Emeka Nmesirionye (14.79). Bonifacic would also finish fourth in the pole vault (4.98m).
 
Oyeyoni Oyewale-Johnson won the men's triple jump LSC Championship with a mark of 15.28m on his fourth attempt. The Buffs closed out the night with a pair of podium finishes in the men's 10,000m as Tobias Ritter ran a 31:16.34 to finish second followed by Tommaso Toppi (31:18.29) in third.
