#6 Lady Buffs Clash with the #1 Pioneers on Championship Sunday in Frisco

CANYON, Texas – The #6 Lady Buffs of West Texas A&M will battle top-seeded and #1 ranked Texas Woman's for the 2026 Lone Star Conference Women's Basketball Championship on Sunday afternoon with tipoff set for 3:30 p.m. in Frisco.
 
UT TYLER REWIND
The #6 Lady Buffs held off a second half comeback by the UT Tyler Patriots on Saturday night as West Texas A&M advanced to their 24th Lone Star Conference Tournament Title Game with a 67-61 victory in the semifinal round. Kyla Kane scored 16 points, converting 8 of 10 free throws and grabbing six rebounds. Taylor Haggan led the scoring with 17 points, making six baskets and collecting seven rebounds. Claire Graham contributed with 10 rebounds, including a perfect 10 on the defensive glass.
 
SCOUTING THE PIONEERS
Texas Woman's enters Sunday riding a 27-game win streak as they are 28-1 on the season and ranked atop of the WBCA Division II Top-25 Poll. The 27 consecutive wins is the second longest streak in all of NCAA Division II women's basketball. 2026 is the 21st appearance in the LSC Tournament for the Pioneers where they are 19-17 overall with three LSC Titles (2011, 2025, 2026).
 
Saturday night saw the Pioneers shoot 42.9% (24-of-56) from the floor including 82.1% 
(23-of-28) from the charity stripe in a 73-61 victory over Eastern New Mexico in the LSC Semifinals in Frisco. TWU forced 16 Greyhound turnovers while also out-rebounding ENMU 35-32 in the win. Gabby Elliott led the way for TWU, going 8-of-14 from the floor for a game-high 18 points to go along with 12 rebounds for a double-double.
 
Elliott, the Lone Star Conference Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year, has gone 164-of-300 (54.2%) from the field so far this season including 103-of-133 (77.4%) from the free throw line to average 16.6 points per game along with 305 rebounds (11.7/game), 42 assists, 43 blocks and 21 steals. She is 12th nationally in double-doubles with 16 while also ranking 14th in rebounds (305) and 6th in rebounds per game (11.7).
 
TWU HEAD COACH BETH JILLSON
Beth Jillson is now in her 19th season at the helm of the Texas Woman's basketball program as she holds an overall record of 332-211 during her time in Denton. She has led the Pioneers to six South Central Regional Tournaments (2011, 2016, 2022, 2023, 2024, 2025) as well as a South Central Regional Title in 2024. Jillson was hired in Denton on August 17, 2007 following assistant coaching stops at Charleston Southern, New Mexico Junior College and Oklahoma State.
 
THE SERIES
Sunday afternoon marks the 74th all-time meeting on the hardwood between West Texas A&M and Texas Woman's as WT holds the 62-11 advantage in the series. Championship Sunday is the fourth meeting between the two teams in the LSC Tournament with WT going 2-1 in those contests. 
 
The last meeting between the two teams saw TWU come away with a 78-74 overtime win at the FUBC in Canyon back on January 31st. Averee Kleinhans went 14-of-26 from the floor and 7-of-10 from the charity stripe for a game-high 38 points as the Pioneers forced 13 WT turnovers. Kyla Kane led the way for WT, going 7-of-14 from the field and 2-of-5 from deep for 22 points with one rebound and a block.
 
WT HEAD COACH JOSH PROCK
Josh Prock is now in his fifth season at the helm of the Lady Buff Basketball program. The Lady Buffs made the program's 29th appearance in the NCAA Division II Postseason during the 2024-25 campaign as they went 19-13 overall with a 12-10 mark in the LSC.
 
Prock reached the 300-career victory milestone on Thursday, December 4th in a 76-51 victory over Oklahoma Christian at the First United Bank Center in Canyon. Prock was introduced as West Texas A&M's head women's basketball coach on June 2, 2021. Prock is no stranger to the Lone Star Conference as he spent eight seasons as the head coach at Eastern New Mexico leading the Greyhounds to three NCAA Tournament appearances.
 
HOME SWEET HOME
West Texas A&M is home to one of the finest multi-purpose facilities in the country as the First United Bank Center has served as the home of the Lady Buffs since January 26, 2002. The Lady Buffs are a staggering 301-49 inside of the FUBC during that time for a winning clip of 86.3%. WT has averaged 1,035 fans per contest since the facility opened its doors with the largest crowd coming on Opening Night with 4,941 members of Buff Nation seeing the Lady Buffs take on rival Abilene Christian.
 
LIVE COVERAGE
The contest will be broadcasted on FloCollege. The LSC and FloSports reached a historic agreement in August for the largest streaming rights deal in NCAA Division II history.
 
NCAA REGIONAL RANKINGS
The Lady Buffs remained second in the second ranked edition of the NCAA Division II Men's Basketball South Central Regional Rankings announced on Wednesday afternoon.
 
Texas Woman's remained atop of the regional rankings followed by West Texas A&M, Colorado Mesa, Lubbock Christian, Adams State, UCCS, UT Tyler, Eastern New Mexico, Western Colorado and Angelo State.
 
The 2026 Division II bracket is announced Sunday, March 8 via an NCAA.com online selection show. The South Central Regional Championships will take place on March 13-16 followed by the NCAA Division II Elite Eight beginning on Monday, March 24th at the UPMC Cooper Fieldhouse in Pittsburgh.
 
LADY BUFFS IN THE LSC CHAMPIONSHIP
The Lady Buffs are in the Lone Star Conference Championship for the 33rd straight campaign and the 38th overall time which is the most of any LSC institutions. WT is 63-21 all-time at the LSC Championship for a winning percentage of 75%. The Lady Buffs have made 24 appearances in the Title Game with 16 Championships since 1987.
