CANYON, Texas – The #3 Lady Buffs of West Texas A&M hit the road for Lone Star Conference action as they begin the weekend on Friday afternoon in Silver City, New Mexico with a league doubleheader against the Western New Mexico Mustangs. WT closes their LSC road trip on Sunday afternoon with a pair of contests against the Sul Ross State Lobos in Alpine, Texas.

THIS IS LADY BUFF SOFTBALL
West Texas A&M Softball is in their 21st season of NCAA competition as the Lady Buffs are a staggering 798-328 (.708) since reviving the program prior to the 2006 campaign. WT has won three South Central Regional Championships (2014, 2016, 2021) along with a pair of NCAA Division II National Championships in 2014 and 2021.

2025 REWIND
The Lady Buffs capped off 2025 with a 56-8 overall record and 40-4 Lone Star Conference record. WT opened the campaign ranked 13th before quickly entering the top 10 of the NFCA poll. The Lady Buffs spent 10 weeks in the top five including three weeks at No. 1. WT earned a share of the Lone Star Conference regular season title for the second consecutive season.

WT HEAD COACH MICHAEL MOOK
In just six seasons,
Michael Mook has led West Texas A&M to a 259-64 (.802) mark while claiming the 2021 NCAA Division II National Championship. Mook is a two-time Lone Star Conference Coach of the Year (2024, 2025) who has led the Lady Buffs to four NCAA Postseason appearances (2021, 2023, 2024, 2025). Mook recently agreed to a three-year contract extension to keep him the WT dugout until atleast the Summer of 2028. A new era of Lady Buff softball began on June 20, 2019, as Mook was hired as the third head coach in program history.

SCOUTING THE MUSTANGS
Western New Mexico is 10-8 on the season with a 6-2 mark in Lone Star Conference action. They ride a two-game win streak into Friday after taking a pair of road games at Sul Ross State last Saturday by a combined score of 19-2.

Lanessa Morales leads the way offensively for the Mustangs as the sophomore from Vail, Arizona is hitting .317 with three doubles, a triple and three homeruns to drive in a team-leading 19 RBI for a slugging percentage of .550.

WNMU holds a 4.98 staff ERA, allowing 95 runs (84 earned) on 147 hits with 54 walks and 61 strikeouts in 118.0 frames. Alixe De Anda is 3-2 on the year with a 3.72 ERA as the junior from San Tan Valley, Arizona has allowed 27 runs (23 earned) on 46 hits with 21 walks and 25 strikeouts in her 43.1 innings for an opposing batting average of .282.

WNMU HEAD COACH ASHLEY HICKMAN
Ashley Hickman is in her third season leading the Western New Mexico softball program. Throughout her coaching career, Hickman has coached four All-Americans and 18 conference players. Hickman has had success at the NAIA to the NCAA level. Her head coaching stops include Upper Iowa and McPherson College. As a player, Hickman spent two seasons pitching for the Jayhawks at the University of Kansas, recording 18 strikeouts over 43.2 innings of work.

THE SERIES
Friday afternoon marks the 32nd and 33rd all-time meetings between the Lady Buffs and Mustangs. WT is a perfect 31-0 in the series that dates back to 2006. The Lady Buffs are a perfect 11-0 all-time in Silver City.

SCOUTING THE LOBOS
Sul Ross State enters the weekend with an overall record of 2-13 with an 0-8 mark in Lone Star Conference play. The Lobos look to snap a 12-game losing streak that started back on January 31st. Last weekend saw the Lobos drop an LSC doubleheader to Western New Mexico by a combined score of 19-2 in Alpine.

Baylie Savage leads the way offensively for the Lobos as the freshman infielder from Midland his hitting .321 on the year with one double and a homerun to tie for the team lead with seven RBI, registering a slugging percentage of .464 to go along with six walks and six strikeouts.

SRSU has an 8.75 ERA as a pitching staff, allowing 148 runs (110 earned) on 165 hits with 69 walks and 50 strikeouts in their 88.0 innings of work. Addison Castilleja is 1-2 on the year with a 6.91 ERA as the freshman from San Antonio has allowed 25 earned runs on 29 hits with 25 walks and 21 strikeouts in her 25.1 frames for an opposing batting average of .274.

SRSU HEAD COACH LACEY MIDDLEBROOKS
Lacey Middlebrooks is in her first season as head coach of the Sul Ross State softball team. Middlebrooks was the head coach of softball at Kilgore High School the past two seasons. Her collegiate coaching stops include Buffalo (2014), Northeastern State (2015-16) and Columbus State (2017-18). Middlebrooks started her collegiate playing career at Minnesota followed by three seasons at the University of Tulsa.

Sunday afternoon marks the fifth and sixth all-time meetings on the diamond between the Lady Buffs and Lobos. WT is a perfect 4-0 with all four meetings coming last season, the Lady Buffs outscored Sul Ross State 36-1 last season. It marks the second trip by the Lady Buffs to Alpine, sweeping a road doubleheader from the Lobos last season.
