Fran Bonifacic won the National Championship in the Heptathlon as the Buffs scored 23 total points to finish sixth at the NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field Championships at the Virginia Beach Sports Center in Virginia Beach, Virginia.

The 23 total points by the Buffs is the sixth most in program history as WT finishes inside of the Top-10 at indoor Nationals for the seventh straight season.Â

Bonifacic set a new school record in the heptathlon with 5,611 points as the junior won both the 60m hurdles (8.17) and pole vault (4.85m) which secured him 1,804 points to go along with a second-place finish in the shot put (14.48m). He becomes the first Buff in Indoor program history to win a National Title in the heptathlon.

Nikolas Kosmopoulos joined Bonifacic on the heptathlon podium as the freshman scored 5,324 points, the fifth most in program history for a sixth-place finish to earn All-American accolades. The Greece product would win the long jump (7.11m) while placing third in the high jump (1.91m) and fourth in the 60m (7.08).

The 60m dash saw the Buffs claim a pair of All-American honors with
Isaac Botsio running a 6.67 to finish fourth followed by
James Dadzie in fifth (6.69).
Adrian Legarreta added another All-American accolade to his already impressive resume as the Friona, Texas native ran a time of 13:53.70 for an eighth-place finish in the 5,000m on Friday.

The Buffs turn their attention to the start of the outdoor season as they host the West Texas Relays next Friday and Saturday at the WTAMU Track & Field Complex in Canyon.
