Adrian Legarreta and
Emeka Nmesirionye found themselves on top of the podium on Friday during the opening day of the 2026 Lone Star Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships at the Albuquerque Convention Center.

Fran Bonifacic started off the scoring for the Buffaloes in the men's pole vault with the third best indoor mark in program history (4.81m) to finish tied for second overall. Bonifacic would also register a fifth-place finish in the long jump (7.05m) along with a qualifying time of 8.30 in the 60m hurdles to advance to Saturday's final.

Legarreta continued his storied career in the men's 5,000m with a time of 14:12.84 to win the event by over 45 seconds followed by
Tobias Ritter in 2
nd (14:58.51),
Branch Cox in 3
rd (15:05.62) and
Tommaso Toppi in 7
th (15:27.03). Nmesirionye would claim the second gold of the day for the Buffs in the high jump with a mark of 1.99m.

The final three events of the Heptathlon start things off on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. CT followed by track finals at 3:00 p.m. CT.
